To celebrate one whole year of running I ran my first race Sunday at the St. Louis Zoo. I am so lame I don't even know what my time was!! There is a web site that will be posting it hopefully soon. I got way excited and started out a little fast. Didn't have much for the end. There were a lot of people there. It took a minute and a half just to get to the starting line after the horn blew. I wore my watch so I could time it myself but in my excitement I forgot to start it!! I had a lot of fun but should have pushed myself harder!!

Way to go! That first 5K is always a blast. Hang in there and post your time when you know what it is.

Congratulations!! I recently ran my first 5K and - thanks to the advice i got here and other site - i was prepared for the temptation of starting "at the other runners' pace" and was able to run the race at my pace.

That same guy always passes me, too. On my first 5K the guy pushing the baby stroller was fat, too. He was huffing and sweating all over the place but he still passed me. That really added insult to injury.

Its taken them forever to post these results but here goes. Finishing time was 28:03. I was 110 out of 733 women! I'm pretty excited about that. Especially since it took nearly 2 minutes just to get to the start line. Next time I will try and get closer.

That's great for your first 5k. Now don't you just want to go out and sign up for another?

Way to go Akern! I celebrated 1 year of racing on July 4 myself. I was 2 minutes better than last year but off my current racing PR by about 1:15 for a5K. Don't worry about your time. It will come down as you get more experience racing. I still go out to fast and I have been doing it for about a year.

Does that mean I am not a racing rookie anymore??
Well keep it up and now comes the fun of finding the next race.
