Posted: 09/30/04 - 05:55 Post subject: My bizarre marathon nightmares
I tend to have some vivid dreams. This is my marathon nightmare last night:
1. The race is starting, and I still have my gear bag with me. I can't find my sister to give it to. I chuck it over at the side of the road, but find that I am getting ready to get run over by the elites, since I am at the very front of the race.
2. I find an empty locker to chuck the bag into, but the race is underway. I am the very last runner.
3. The blue line is faint and missing in places. The first three miles are more like an obstacle course, leading up and down stairs. I have to climb through some playground equipment jungle gyms.
4. The blue line leads to certain people, whom I have to stop and talk to before they will indicate which way to go. One woman gives me some makeup in a goody bag. I throw this on her lawn because I can't carry all that. Another stop is a college guy who demonstrates to me how to test your blood (for diabetes) and how important it is to do so. I'm getting pissed at all these people, but I'm trying not to be rude, but my time is just dwindling away. At the next person, who is my college roommate, I just yell at her to show me the way.
5. I'm outside running again, but I have lost my hat and my watch. And I don't have a pace band.
I've decided to take care of that gear bag before the race. And check where I've put the hat and watch.

I enjoyed your dreams.
The night before my first marathon I dreamed that as I was approaching a checkpoint (there were 5 of them at which you had to be past by certain times to continue) a hand was going up to stop me. And I had practiced diligently to prevent such an incident. I was so relieved when I woke up.

| But that means you will have a better time than every runner you pass. And those will be many.
At least you haven't had any where you find you're running the race naked. Actually, that could motivate you.
I did not have any strange 'thon-related dreams before Mad City, and I haven't had any for Chicago. The night before Mad City, I slept like a log.
Which may explain why I woke up in the fireplace.

I had no problems before Philly. Slept great.

I thought it was pretty fun too. I could do without the obstacle course stuff though!
How come I don't dream about crossing the finish line or the time on the clock at the finish line?

I have had nightmares where I was at the start line for a marathon, and had not trained--at all.
