Posted: 09/08/03 - 11:14 Post subject: My Embarrasing Brother.
Is it mean to say I've had it with him?
He's a drunk and takes some Valium like pills when he's drinking. We just started a softball league on Fridays and I was dissapointed to learn my brother was on a team there as well. Just because I've been avoiding him and knew he would act stupid anyway.
So we played his team this week and clobbered them. He was so messed up he had no idea what was going on half the time, so they didn't play him much. My brother being a sore loser proceded to cuss out the entire team he was on said he quit, and made a big a$$ spectale of himself. It's really embarrasing because everyone knows he's my brother.
He calls me this morning, and the only reason I answered was because it was 6 freakin o clock in the AM and I thought it was an emergency of some sort. He says "sorry if I woke you up" I say "is this an emergency?"
he says "yeah, kinda my car won't start and I need a jump."
I tell him I can't help him and he says "uh ok, I guess I'll see you Friday."
HUH?
Oh crap.

I'm on the other end of this. I don't even know where my sister is and other than a death in the family (or her own) I can see my life going along just fine still not knowing where she is.
We NEVER got along since she was always PUSHY and CONTROLLING and DEVIOUS and MANIPULATIVE and I unless I dreamed it...she may have some some hinky stuff to me as a kid...so I'm good being a geographic orphan.

Has anyone ever confronted him about his problem and expressed their concerns? He could be very dangerous out there drinking and taking Rx drugs.
You have every right to be frustrated and embarrassed! I would have been.

We've pretty much tried everything. I've done alot for him through the years trying to help him out of this. He's even lived with me and my husband so I could help him out.
My mom was going to counselling with him, but of course he thought it was stupid and quit going. He tried to commit suicide last x-mas, and I hate to say it, but it might have been for the best that he succeded. Besides the fact he's killing our mother, I don't have the time or patience to babysit him any longer.

Wow. That's a lot to handle. It's sad to say that he's got to want to change himself before he's ever going to. In the meantime, everyone else suffers.
I just hope no one gets hurt. I'm surprised this hasn't happened already.
Sorry for this and your situation.

Hang in there Allison.....they all hit rock bottom sooner or later. You know you tried everything you could and you have nothing to feel bad about.

By law, only if they show imminent danger to themselves or others, as in a serious suicide attempt like last time, or openly threatening to harm someone else with a plan and a means to do it.
