Posted: 12/09/02 - 18:38 Post subject: My Day in the Jury Waiting Room
To sum it all up:
Got five magazines read
Wrote out all my christmas cards
One long 2 hour snooze
Didn't get picked for any juries, not even selected to be part of a panel...perhaps I should have left out the Captain of the Buttslappers part, yes
All this for $12.63

I've only had to serve once. It was a tax fraud case, and I got elected chairman or whatever. The guy was guilty as all get out, and his public defender did a piss-poor job of defending him, I might add. 10 counts of tax fraud. Guilty on each of them. I imagine he did some serious time.

I got called once. Picked right away (lucky, I guess). The trial was an indescent exposure case, where a man allegedly exposed himself to two teenage girls in a park. We had to find him not guilty due to lack of evidence, plus he had an alibi. We were convinced they had the wrong person. Pretty interesting day for me, though. I was outta there by 4pm.

I got picked just last month!
Apparently this means you are way smarter than me.

Thanks Lord Vader, I really was innocent!!!! How much do I owe you for convincing the other members of the jury?

Sounds like a thrilling day Grego! How long are you serving, all week? Hope you get picked for a case just for the fun of it, you may get sick of magazines otherwise if you are there all week. Plus, you can really earn that massive paycheck!

In our County is a one day/one trial system. Since I didn't get chosen my service is over. Those that got picked will be there all week.

Of seven of my family members (with the same last name anyway) living in this county, all seven of us were called for jury duty within 3 weeks of each other, just about 2 months ago. So much for "random selection", eh? I was chosen for a panel for a case that decided to settle, so I got to leave quickly. My parents each were chosen for some high drama, high profile cases. Pretty interesting.

I got called twice, but didn't have to show either time. I was in college at Eau Claire at the time, so I was still technically a resident of Madison. So I got called the first time for duty, and wrote a letter stating I was a student too far away from home to make it. Thought they'd understand. Year later, got called again, this time they gave me a lot of slack and said that they could technically bring charges against me for false information! Got some lawyer friend to help with an even better letter and haven't been bothered since. I still don't understand their gripe...
