Monday is the busiest day of the week by far. It is also my 12 hour work day at the gym. Never boring. |
I think this is the busiest day at gyms everywhere. And I do think people are trying to make up for the weekend, Attendance tapers down from Monday, with Sunday being the lowest attendance in my experience.
Do you have group classes? Either way, do you have spin bikes?

Do you donate to the local schools whenever they seek sponsors? (I ask because it seems like such a good marketing strategy... I make a point of using businesses that support the local school teams/PTA/etc.)
What's the average patron's age? |
Free weights, absolutely.
I do not donate money to the schools but we do lots of things for them specifically. Like donate memberships, do Student rates and specials, paid advertising spoinsoring the teams etc.
Average age? Not sure good question but my best guesstimate would be 30ish.

Yes, however everyone who comes through the door signs a liability form. Prolly as good as the paper it's written on though I suppose. Additionally, we offer a free 2 week trial to anyone who comes in the gym. During this time they are trained on all the machines for proper form, weight guidance, etc. I don't hesitate to let someone know they are using poor form either.
It the 4 years the gym has been open, we have had no claim of injury.

No spin bikes yet. Yes we have group classes though. We have Yoga twice a week. And a Boot Camp Circuit Training class taught by me twice a week also. My class is a blast. Very laid back, I play music, we laugh and joke around. It is truly like "Riff Raff Live", I swear. Wish you guys could come check it out.

How many of your owners also act in some personal training capacity?
Did you finance your portion of the up-front cost of the gym personally or through a SBL?

What's the most weight you've ever seen one of your gym members lose?
Who can bench and squat the most?

Now THAT is a cool policy. I've never seen that done before but I think that it is great.

Of the 5 owners, I am the only one who works out period. Thus, they are of no help in the training department. They have all been trained by a Magnum rep. on the 11 selectorized machines we have though.
The fact that they don't exercise really gets to me. I practice what I preach so to speak. I would never ask anyone to do something I wouldn't do/try myself. But they all bring something different to the group. 1 is an accountant for her Dad's trucking company. She does the books. 1 also owns another business, he does most of the paperwork. The 2 others, 1 a farmer, the other a funeral director/wireless rep. just basically have an investmet and do very little . The only sore spot within the group. All the others work a few hours a month, donated time. I work the most hours, about 35 per week that I get paid barely more than minimum wage. My duties include daily management, training, ordering product, scheduling, advertising, some paperwork etc.
The business is just entering it's 5 year October 1st. I joined the gym as a member in the first few months after it opened. After a year they approached me to work a few hours in exchange for my membership. I did this for 2 years. Last year one of the owners told me she was having some family difficulties and needed to get out to spend time with her sick father. It was well known that should anyone need or want out of the partnership, I'd love to be in. The opportunity of a lifetime for me, dropped in my lap. I bought her out and came into the company as President. It's just a title, not much more but lots of responsibility. It's an amazing situation and I'm very happy.

I have a couple members who have lost neary 70lbs. 1 male, 1 female and have kept it off. Seeing people reach and maintain goals makes it all worth it for me.
I only have a few real muscle guys in the gym and honestly have no clue what they bench/squat these days, but I'll ask and post it in the next day or 2.
I was spotting my girfriend on the bench this morning and she did 110 and could have easily done more. Not bad for a girl

YES! January through March is just absolutely crazy. Unfortunately, most of them fall off the wagon after that. Sadly, it's those who truly need to be at the gym too.

Do you have personal trainers on staff? Is there a special certification that you need to become one?
