Saw this movie over the weekend......laughed my azz off! Pure unadulterated silliness, lots of slapstick comedy and your typical "triumph of the underdog" storyline. Anyone who is a fan of the loser who wins will like this one. Be warned, though: it's really silly........you really need to be a special kind of twisted to like this movie!
Napoleon is a lovable LOSAH, his buddies Pedro and Deb, the Glamour Shots Girl, run a pretty close second and Uncle Rico really IS an idiot. This one's definitely gonna become a cult classic, no doubt. MANY great takeaway lines and sound effects to be savored.
5 out of 5  for sure!

Really? The previews weren't too impressive and even Ebert and Roeper didn't sell me on it. Hmm.

Our 19-year-old son really liked this. I think you've described him quite well. I'd like to see it, but don't know if I'll get there, or will wait until it's out on DVD.

Yeah but you have to understand my warped sense of humor. Ebert and Roeper definitely don't share it. 
There's absolutely no one of any big name in this movie, which is why I think it's a harder sell.

I'm 50 minutes into this movie and all I can say is...  (where's the funny).
I'll finish watching it tonight, but unless things turn around very quickly, I'll stand by my original .

My roommate rented it the other night and I came in midway through and sat and watched because I wanted to see it. I probably missed some crucial plot points in the first 1/2 that would have made the second half hysterical, but I didn't find it funny. Creepy at times and odd, sort of pathetic at others, but not so much funny.  My roommate says even after seeing it all she didn't get it either. 
I did like his dancing.

I think it's hilarious!......I first saw it in the theater and there were a bunch of kids who had seen it a bunch of times and were repeating the lines as they came up.......saw it at home and it wasn't quite the same but I still enjoyed it.....
vote for pedro!

Like I said, a special kind of twisted.
My friend and I were probably the only two people in the theater who were falling out of our seats laughing at this in the movies.....I just rented it again from Netflix to see if my roomie thinks it's funny.

I finished watching it last night. It only got two little chuckles out of me. The movie isn't even interesting until LaFawnduh shows up.

It's a slow, low keyed kind of quirky.....maybe I appreciate it since I work at a Jr. High, and maybe the kids like it cuz they go to school with geeks like that, I don't know.....but I can see how you'd either like it, or be bored by it......
Ya hafta wonder how many Uncle Ricco's there are out there who just wished they could re-live their glory days of high school football...the last time that something went right for them.......

And I think I like it because I have done therapy with people like these wackos so I can sort of relate. But pffff is right, it was pathetic in a way too. But Pedro was a riot!

By pathetic I guess I mean, I could see how some of it was funny but I had trouble laughing at people I found in sort of pathetic situations. But, I was hoping most of that was because I didn't know the backstory given in the first half. (I probably should watch the whole thing)

Honestly, pff, if you weren't amused by the second half, the first half ain't gonna do you no good. It's just not your kind of flick, and that's perfectly ok. It IS a weird little movie, moves incredibly slow, and really has no basis in reality.
I guess that's the trick to this movie, it's not a reflection of the real world, not a true "story." It's kind of like Beavis and Butthead meets Seinfeld. You know Beavis and Butthead aren't real, they're a collection of the most inane, asinine, idiotic adolescent male behavior ever seen by man. And Seinfeld isn't real, no one goes through life scrutinizing the endless minutae like they do. So, IMHO, Napoleon and Pablo aren't real people you should identify with in whole, because if you do, you'll end up in that "oh my God these guys are pathetic" place and feel sorry for them.
Madeline loved this movie, which tells you a lot. In order to enjoy it, you need the sense of humor of a nine year old. She has no baggage, no context, no way of relating to any of these people. To her, they're just a bunch of really goofy people with really quirky behavior and mannerisms that do really stupid stuff (she fell off her seat when Uncle Rico threw the steak and knocked Napoleon off his bike...as did I. Tells you a lot about MY sense of humor, huh?)

That's where I disagree. I grew up as a dork in a small town in western KS. A lot of that movie hit close to home. Deb even looks a little bit like my girlfriend at the time. Pedro reminds me of one of my best friends from back then too.

That's a good analogy and I'd agree with both of these. Not everyone liked the Jay & Silent Bob movies either. IMHO, those were kinda the same type of weird, slapstick, dorky movies that you either thought were incredibly funny or incredibly stupid. No biggie.
