What position on any sports team is the most important?
Baseball pitcher?
Hockey Goalie?
Soccer Goalie?
Others could apply here. I'm going with Hockey Goalie. Witness the Mighty Ducks playoff run last year.

I was going to be a smart aleck and say spectator because of their willingness to pay outrageous sums of money to see even mediocre sports talent.
But then the realization hit, that the true athlete will have the yearning to play no matter who is watching. (Hence our triathletes and the people who yearn to run and people like my son who practice on their skateboards everyday for a couple of hours)
