Posted: 07/01/03 - 19:32 Post subject: More Surgery for The Kid!
Today eye doc said another 3+ months in glasses - no exceptions, not even for races. I am beyond pissed. In the last ten months I've been able to wear contacts for only 3.5 months, and he doesn't know why all of a sudden, after wearing contacts for over 20 years, that my body is now fighting them. I keep getting viral conjunctivitis with no explanation why.
So I said enough is enough. I hate these freakin' specs because I have no peripheral vision, a lot less facial expression, and not to mention slippage/fogging when running. So before I officially change my name to Oaster, on 11/6 I'm looking at Lasik. 3 weeks before the marathon, but he said within 2 days I'd be back running no problema. I almost don't care that it costs enough to fund a few months in Vegas.
I remember someone (RR?) recommending this, but can't remember who. Who's had it done, and what say you?

I was ready to have it done. I too, am experiencing some problems with contacts (mostly dry eyes) and I had to stop wearing them for a few months years ago due to cornea ulcers (usually something experienced by people who leave contacts in overnight---which I have NEVER done). But after talking with my brother......I chickened out......he regrets Lasik.....but, of course, he never had contact problems. My sister had lasik 2 years ago and already bought a pair of glasses for driving.....my husband doesn't regret having lasik--but said he probably wouldn't have it done with my vision.
I always thought my vision wasn't too bad.....but last night I couldn't read the channel number on the tv and husband laughed....because he who used to be blind as a bat had no problems seeing the numbers.

My husband had it and has loved every second of it. He had it a few years ago, and still thinks it is the best money we have ever spent.

I know at least five people who have had it and said it is the best thing they have ever done.
Also, they only had a bit of blurry vision for one day. The next morning they were good as new!

I am blessed with perfect vision (thank god) so I have no personal experience with this process. However, I know 4 people who have had the Lasiks process done and all of them have had nothing but good reports. The worst I heard was that one girl had a few issues driving at night for a few weeks (issues as in she couldn't see in the dark).
