Are the talking heads right ? Will this have a "major" effect on the coming mid term elections ? According to a CNN Poll I just saw this AM, something like 57% plan to vote Democrat.

I'ts hard to blame someone who is having problems but let's face it, the Congressman is old enough to know he is doing wrong. I'm agreeing with Keltic on the pandering to the Conservatives with the molestation issue. Because, when you come right down to it, there's no excuse for what he did.

I'm curious how much this is "upsetting" the people that said Moral Issues were important to them during the 2004 election. Will the "Moral issues" folks of 2004 stay away in disgust at the Republican Leadership ? Let's face it, in their eyes, this person is an "abomination", was bordering on committing a crime against a child, abused alcohol.

Of course the bigger issue for the House leadership is "what did they how, when did they know and how much did they know ?" I would tend to believe they did not know the whole story but lets face it: its a small group, rumors are always floating around. It amazes me that not one hint of this has come out earlier.

You made your own point.

Consider this: The Republicans have elevated themselves onto a very lofty "moral issues" plateau. Now when a major, "moral" issue comes out, it will show the party is not so moral after all. The backlash the GOP will feel from this is the wrath of the Moral Issue folks who probably feel betrayed and deceived.

The fall from grace will be hard and swift. Not to mention the hipocritical nature of the entire situation. Rep Foley was a "leading light" in getting predator leglislation passed. I'd love to see what he may have said about gay marriage.

Carl Rove or any other politico has nothing to do with this issue.

It is getting harder and harder to tell who the "good guys" are..

Do I vote for the party that probably would bring our soldiers home, but raise the heck outa my taxes, panders to the illegal aliens, want's to make Spanish the official national language, make us subserviant to the UN, and wants to ban firearms...

Or do I vote for the party that sends jobs out of the country, supports corrupt business practices, supports corrupt government practices, forces me to play the stock market with my retirement funds and who's supporters profit from the war?

Gee...some choice...

Not a duplicate posting.

What exactly does that statement mean ? Are you accusing Dems of the same thing ? Remember, for all the sleaze factor, Monica L was an adult, not a High Schooler.

The issue is the predatory nature of the situation, the homosexual nature of the situation, the hipocrisy shown by Mr Foley. For all the Moral Issues Posturing, an awful lot of Republicans have been caught doing things they shouldn't - mostly about money.

So you think that Democrats knew about this and sat on it until now?

Because from all accounts it seems that ranking Republicans knew about it for awhile.

And sat on it.

I don't think that the Democrats want to make Spanish the official language.

But you could be right about the rest of it.

"Tame" or not, the letters and IM's were addressed to minors. To me, that's creepy enough.

Might want to go here and look at the "birthday messages"

http://blogs.abcnews.com/theblotter/2006/10/new_foley_insta.html

Here's an excerpt from one of those "birthday messages":

(MAF54 is Foley)

Maf54: I miss you
Teen: ya me too
Maf54: we are still voting
Maf54: you miss me too

The exchange continues in which Foley and the teen both appear to describe having sexual orgasms.

Maf54: ok..i better go vote..did you know you would have this effect on me
Teen: lol I guessed
Teen: ya go vote…I don't want to keep you from doing our job
Maf54: can I have a good kiss goodnight
Teen: :-*
Teen: <kiss>

I've never really seen anyone in denial until just now.

Can you get your head out of your Rep sphicter long enough to realize this guy was dead wrong ? No matter how you posture and try to excuse or minimalize it, he's wrong and the GOP will suffer.

Three year old messages ? That means he's been doing this for at least three years... How old do the messages have to be before you consider them as wrong ? A day, a week ? At what point does a message like that become OK ?
