I want to rename this race: Hella Hilly and Hot 1/2 IM
I'll try to keep this as short as I am. The race was in Bristol, NH. Mike (Happy2tri) and I went up on Saturday with my hubby and another friend of ours. We picked up the race packet and put on the wetsuits to test the water. Cold, 60 degrees but manageable. Crystal clear. We saw big fish, prolly catfish about 18"long, in the water. The weather was beautiful. We finally got a weekend of sun and no rain. Sun in the form of high 80's low 90's.
Sunday woke up around 5:15 in the crappy bed and breakfast we stayed in. Got ready, took care of business and got to transition abour 6:20. Mike was in wave 4 and I was in wave 5, the last wave.
Swim: 1.2mile swim in Water 60 degrees. The swim was nice. I'm never going to be fast but I am definately getting better in the open water swims. I didn't get too abused and tried to stay on course. It was a big triangle and on the way back to shore the sun was on the side with the buoys because of this I had a hard time sighting on the way back. 36:59. (5min faster than my last 1/2IM time 3 years ago.)
T1: 3:36, I had to get my wetsuit off. enough said.
Bike: 56 miles. It was a 2 loop course. It was hot. I wasn't cold at all, not even right out of the water. I heard about this "steep hill" around mile 5 and almost crapped my pants when I saw it. There was a lady at the bottom dressed in a devil costume cheering everyone on. So Mike and I named it "Devil's hill". It was so steep. "Out of the saddle and pray your legs keep moving" kind of steep. On the 2nd loop I looked at my computer. I was going as hard as I could and my cadence was 47 and I was going 5.7MPH. The rest of the course was HILLY!! There were a few great downhills. On one of them there was a sharp right turn at the bottom. The girl infront of me must have spaced out or her brakes weren't working, she completely missed the turn and went straight into the woods, had to have been going 38 MPH. There was a firestation there and the firemen were standing right there so they attended to her right away. I found out today she's ok, but her bike broke into 2 pieces. The scenery for this bike course was beautiful. I rode in the big gear whenever I could and tried to stay in aero as much as possible. Much better on the first lap than the 2nd.
Time: 3:19:13. (16.9MPH)
T2: 2:55 (I'm so slow in transition.)
Run: 13.1 miles. And suprise this was hilly too. It was an out and back twice. The nice thing about an out and back is you get to see so many other people who are just as miserable as you! I saw Mike 3 times on the run. I felt like crap the whole first 6 miles. The 2nd lap was easier for some reason. I forgot to put my race number on and I thought I would get a DQ. So at the turnaround I went back and got my number. (The turnaround was in the transition area.) What can I say. I walked up alot of the hills. It was hot. They had Heed, which does not quench your thirst. I had 2 gu's on the run and could have had a 3rd. But all in all I did OK. When I realized how the run was going I just wanted to stay around a 9:30 pace. 2:04:40 (9:31) pace. Finished and they had cold towels and energice popsicles! Great way to end a race.
Official time: 6:07:22
Swim: 36:59
T1: 3:36
Bike: 3:19:13
T2: 2:55
Run: 2:04:40
Overall 261/395, AG 13/18, Gender 58/116.
Overall I did ok. Considering the heat and the hills. I wanted to break 6 hrs but couldn't do it. I was very pleased with my swim and bike times. I've only done 1 1/2IM before this and I did 6:02 and it was flat as a pancake. This was a great training day for the IM in Lake Placid. In my opinion I think this course was tougher than the IM course. Maybe it was the heat that made it seem tougher. Maybe the hills. Who knows. I'm just glad this one is over! No more races for me until the IM.

Well done Dancer.
I'd of drowned before I hit the .2 mi. of a 1.2 mile swim unless they permit life jackets.

What a race report to hear! You did a fantastic job and something I can only dream of these days! You had more than respectable times in all three parts of your race!

No can do. All triathlons have to end with the word MAN, it's in the rules.
Maybe Hot and HillyMAN.
Good job! You half/full peeps scare me.
