Posted: 03/21/03 - 12:46 Post subject: Money Question HELPLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!
For those that don't know, I was in the military (a hospitial unit) that was deployed for desert shield and desert storm.
In my travels there I manage to aquire 5 $25 Iraqi Dinar.
Well looking at the Currency Converter for three banks with today's date I find that this money is worth:
Friday, March 21, 2003
25 Iraqi Dinar = $$$$$84.15808 US Dollar
25 US Dollar (USD) = 7.42650 Iraqi Dinar (IQD)
Median price = 3.07380 / 3.36632 (bid/ask)
Minimum price = 3.06880 / 3.36089
Maximum price = 3.07380 / 3.36632
So the question is should I:
A. Hang on to it????
B. Sell some of it (I have 2 of them in my scrap book here at work)
C. Sell the whole lot

Depending on where you go to attempt to convert it, you'll be lucky if the fee they charge you covers the value of the money. Believe me. That's why I've got about $120 in SA money and about $40 in JA$ sitting at home. That is, unless things have changed since the last time I checked (which was about 3 years ago)/

keep it. If you decide to sell it, it'll prolly go up after this war.
If not, good for your grandkids.

Damm forgot about that Kristin, thanks for the reminder.
Did not have problems at my bank converting all my Canada money from two years ago.

Thanks not married or have kids of my own, but something to ponder.
Part of my panic is would the money be more a collectors item if Saddam is gone or more a novelity that I had some of his money.
Thanks so far.

I'd keep it. It's not worth that much but still kinda cool to show people. (even if you don't have kids) My grandpa is a WWII Vetern. He's got some neat things he brought home from Germany.

Gosh, and if you return to Iraq, think of all the bargains you might be able to find...

When in doubt, throw it out... ooops, wrong thread.
Canadian money is an easy exchange. It's once you get farther and farther out does it get tougher. My guess is even if you called a bank, aside from the fee, they're likely to simply say no. Odds are in a few hours to a few days it is going to be worth as much as the paper it's printed on if the Marines do their job.
Think souvenier or .. EBay!

There's a thought, you could prolly sell it for like $10,000 to some knothead on ebay who thought he was getting a rare find. I'd say keep it til we blow him away and then sell it.

No I don't (however I am going to Vegas on Monday but my question was more towards having this money for menories of things past only to find out the current world events could effect the value of my holdings either in a postive or negative way.
Was thinking of heading to my bank and cash in the two I have, but thought I would seek the wisdom of the Raffter's 1st.
