...charity?
Me: Well, yes. I think it's important to share what you have with someone who has nothing.
Ian: But do you know who?
Me: Not always. You just have to trust the people that you give to that it will go to the right place.
Ian: I want to know.
Me: Know what?
Ian: Exactly who it goes to. I want to know that it gets to the right place.
Me: I can understand that.
Ian: I want to help someone I know...you know?
Me: Well..they can't tell me who it is but I can find out if there is a kid in your school that might need help for Christmas. I mean..you can't KNOW who it is, but at least you will know it helped someone close to you. Is that all right?
Ian. Yes.
Me: Okay. I'll call Mrs. Schneider.
(Am I raising a charitable cynic?)
Later:
I talked to the Principal and she confirmed that she could not tell me who but that there is a kindergartner who could use a pair of mittens.
Of course, I'm thinking HAT AND MITTEN DRIVE, but that might be a little much to take on.
What do you folks think?

No, I think he's highly insightful and has his heart in the right place. I like to do things where I know the organization is legitimate so I know the stuff is actually going to someone who really needs it also.

It's a little sad to know that he's concerned (at his age) that it goes to the right place. But I agree with genie that he wants his intentions (and actions) to be in the right place.
He's not being cynical. At all.

He's so smart! He's more insightful than I was at his age and definitely my niece and nephew are/were at that age. A thumbsup from me for the wenchlet for being able to think about things critically (something a lot of adults are unable to do) at such a young age.

I have a client who is starting a 501c(3). Can I have your permission to suggest this as a slogan?
Good job with your son, MW. You're doing it right.
