Posted: 05/05/06 - 13:48 Post subject: Mission Accomplished
Sorry I have not been around. It's been a hectic two days with two very emotional fallen soldier missions.
We had just completed the grave side services for Army Pvt Zimmerman on Thursday afternoon, when the mission commander waved me over and told me to call the State Ride Captain. I was asked to rush to the location of Fridays funeral for Marine Cpl. Hardy as it was reported the protest group was in town and planned to disrupt the transport of the soldiers remains from the funeral home to the church. I got a team of six riders together and we raced to the funeral home and set up a perimiter. When the young soldiers remains were placed in the herse and left the funeral home, we rode out ahead on the travel route to make sure no protesters were setting anything up. Half a mile behind us was the police motorcycle escorts, state police and the funeral procession.
This morning we met up again and rode to Cpl Hardy's funeral and assisted with grave side activites, as well as a wall of flags.
I am completly exhausted, so it's time to rehydrate and take a nap.
Yesterday we had around 60 riders, today over 100.

I trust there were no protestors.
It's a shame things have come to such a point.

According to the PA State Police, Fred Phelps group is in the area. He is expected to be at a funeral in NY next week.
There was a report of protesters attempting to disrupt the delivery of Cpl Hardy's remains from the DOD to the Funeral Home, that's why my team rushed to Parksburg and established a perimiter for the transport to the church. The UG's did not show themselves.
