some of these places are not only obsolete, but redundant. My brother did his reserve work while attending college. In the summer he transferred as a recruiter in my home town. He worked with several other recruiters in a building that did nothing else. We are talking a town of less than 10,000 and shrinking high school population was 1000 when my dad was a kid 800 when I was and I'm sure less than that now. In one summer, I think there were less than 10 recruits. They give them a written exam and if they pass, they went to Milwaukee for physical. Sorry, a building a few jobs would be lost, but it was easy to see that these 'applicants' could go to Milwaukee to take the written and physical on the same day.
Little surprised by Ellsworth, although someone from my hubby's medical class was stationed there and being the "only" doc in the field was not the best training for him and I'm sure it's best for other fields to be amongst their specialties rather than on their own. How much can a pilot learn if he's the only one attached to a base? Some of these bases have gotten so small.....that's what we are talking about. Someone that is a trained specialist sitting in a building, just in case
