Posted: 12/02/04 - 13:34 Post subject: Meeting Vent
So, I take two extra days off after the holidays, and I purposefully block out time on my schedule for "catch up" stuff. Several people book me for meetings anyway.
One of the meetings is set for 11 this morning. It's an 11-to-1'er, so I'm not happy about that already. That means no lunch until after 1:00. So, I am sitting in the conference room alone until 11:05, at which point I decide to have my boss paged to find out if we're still meeting. She says, "I forgot about that meeting! Let's wait until 11:30." Okay fine.
Two minutes after I get back to my office she calls me and says, "let's go ahead and meet now." I gather up my stuff and head back to the conference room. While I'm on my way there, she tells me she really can't meet yet and can I just wait until she's ready. I'm getting hungry! And I know I'll be stuck here for some crappy working lunch, now, too. Or else she'll cancel the meeting completely after I've waited around for an hour.

Ironically, both my boss and I are from the public school sector. I'm just an anomaly.
For the most part, though, the corporate world is exactly the same. . .except you can go to the bathroom whenever you want to and take longer lunches.

I hate to say this Ms Les but...
You could have reminded your boss in a very nice way she is tying up several people besides while you wait on her to get to the meeting - perhaps she needs to change the meeting time and date ?
Speaking as one who has held meetings - a 3 hour meeting is unacceptable. Why ? Because our weekly staff meetings for a 20,000 person Army unit took 45 minutes to do it all.
