Well the weather on Friday was 70, humid and 30mph winds. Saturday morning turned out to be beautiful. Randy picked me up and we met Joel in Mayville. The temperature was about 40 deg's at 7:45. We checked in and then drove the course. All the miles were clearly marked which was nice. The race started just after 9:00am. All 3 of us ran together until Joel pulled ahead at the 3 mile mark. Randy and I ran mile 4 together and then I pulled ahead. Just a half mile before the finish, Randy caught back up to me and pulled ahead. Everybody ran an awesome race and placed in there age group. We hung around afterwards and met Joel's parents and sisters.

Joel, Randy - You guys rock my face off!!!! Congratulations guys.

I took the silver in the 30-39 age group. Very Happy

Great race to you to, Paul! I also took home the silver in the 20-29 age group (DAMNIT, JOEL!) I was ultimately shooting for sub-42:00. Finished in 40:23. Great job, guys! Awesome pacing with you - you kept me up the first half when I felt the worst.

Had a blast yesterday as well! Got to spend some quality time with some fellow Riffers/Mafia members. Ran an excellent race. Some of my family were able to make it as well...oh, and I had a post-race brat w/saurkraut=BLISS.

Anyway, to the race. Well, we all agreed to stick together at the beginning and that's exactly what we did...

But first I should make note on the terrible 'start-job' of the race director...it was kinda like:
Race Director to runner in the back: "pssst...hey tell your friend to 'go' and pass it on..."
Mad

Think we maintained about an 8:15 pace for the first 3 miles and I was feeling wonderful at this point so I decided to pick up the pace.

Hit mile 4 at 32:15...paced myself with some friendly 60 year-old guy for awhile and we chatted about the town's history (interesting, yes?). After tripping him and kicking sand in his face, I stepped it into high gear for the final 1/2 mile and finished with a time of 39:42. That's a PR for me by about 4 minutes!! The best part was having my family there to cheer me on through the finish line.

Surprise! Shocked I was most pleasantly pleased to hear my name being announced for first place in my age group! Mr. Green Yeehaw for me! My very first medal! And as a major bonus, Rando and Paul followed suit taking home medals of their own. A Riff Raff sweep!

Hopefuly I can carry this good fortune with me on my next 5K this Saturday! Great to see you two again and I'm looking forward to running many more miles with ya guys!

joel

ps. Everyone remind Rando to drive sssllllooooowwwwwww.

excellent sweep on those medals!

however, I don't like this mafia strategy of racking up mileage in a gang like this. I'm checking the rule book.
