to worry.

I teach at 2 different schools, and today was my split day. I arrived at my 2nd (more prosperous, in terms of the income level of the students) to find a 3rd grade sitting on my risers in the auditorium. The gym teacher had them in there, and I could see that they were upset about something. The gym teacher had brought them to the cafeteria/stage to get them away from one of the students who has progeria. that little boy was sitting in gym class (watching others take a situp test) when a very sudden, very sharp pain came on. He was still screaming as I was talking to the gym teacher. the boy cried and screamed for a long time. Parents came to take him, and I would hope they went to the hospital. Here's the problem: the parents are in denial about the kid's disease. They have repeatedly told the school nurse that there's nothing wrong with the boy. Shocked yet it's very obvious that he has arthritis, has lost all his hair, his skin is very fragile, and he is much smaller than his classmates.
so I'm sitting here at home, worrying about him. worrying about his family, and worrying about what it will do to the school kids if the unspeakable happens, especially at this time of year.

Keep him in your prayers.

it's one of those days when you know you're called to be a teacher, but you also wonder why it has to be you.....

If I believe that people are in the right place at the right time for my benefit, then it must also be true that I am in the right place at the right time for the benefit of others. I know that this is true today, for at least one child Wink

That's what I was thinking. If the parents ignore it, it may be necessary.

wow. And I've been thinking about that other young man you mentioned earlier today that has few clothing items. It's been really weighing on me.

I think you are where you are because you care--and you notice things around you and try to make them better. You'd be surprised how many people go about in their own world only worried about how to make their own world better. Then again, maybe it wouldn't surprise you. Sad People can sure suck sometimes, huh?

i'm amazed that parents could possibly deny this condition? it's so physically apparent. that poor child, unsupported with no advocacy whatsoever. if your parents aren't there at that age, who the H is? Sad

please let us know how he does.

The neglect of the parents is the same as abuse. I think you are obligated to cal HRS and get the child help. Forget about the parents, it is the child that needs the help at this point.

CALL THE POLICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree. Somebody has to take control of this kid's situation if the parents refuse to do it.
