The logic of the anti-gun lobby on this particular issue is simply amazing to me. They would rather see a hijacked plane get shot out of the sky by our military then give a weapon to a full trained pilot to help defend the cockpit.
I don't own a gun and don't plan to, but this is so irrational to me. |
Why would you oppose someone armed outside the cockpit stationed on each flight with the specific duty of protecting the flight while the pilot lands the plane safely? I don't know my feelings on this, just curious yours...

Why do you keep not addressing that part of it? Why is it so important to you that it be the pilot and no one else? Why don't you address the suggestion of the stronger doors? |
Stronger cockpit doors are another potential deterrent to airline terrorism. Sure it's another tool.
One armed agent on the plane and two armed pilots in the cockpit. 3 armed folks on one plane. I like my chances there if god forbid someone attempts to hijack that plane.

Armed pilots, armed guards, whatever. It would be an effective deterrent. In lieu of armed guards on every flight, I believe training and arming the pilots is a good idea. Inpenetrable doors is a good idea. It all comes down to $$$ and I don't see any of the airlines jumping at the chance to spend more money.

Nor should they. Security is TSA's responsibility. Where exactly is that $5.3B going if not to protect our travelers?

The airlines shouldn't be concerned about the safety of their planes? They are divested of that responsibility?

i think rex said this already but i'll reiterate, imho the terrorists have already won by the mere fact that we are even having this conversation about how to secure the air, while they are off plotting how to poison the food/water supply of a major city, blow up a bridge, destroy a nuclear plant, or set off a dirty bomb, you get the picture?

Of course they should be; I didn't say that. I said the $$$ should come from TSA. But remember airline security was the main factor in developing that little group our tax dollars support, aka Homeland Security. Surely some of the $28.9B in discretionary funds could be redirected to the nearly bankrupt airline industry.
