Our healthcare company (we have a PPO) just went to mail-order prescriptions. I'm not sure I like this one bit. I like going to the drugstore, ordering a refill, hearing my name over the PA, and taking my drugs home...all within just an hour.
Anyone else's healthcare company use a mail order system? Do you like it? It is more or less convenient for you?

We do, but only for bulk perscriptions. It costs us 0 and we can get 3 month supplies of stuff. It is nice just have to get the doctor to write the script for enough refills.

Same for us. Don't really use it though.

I use it sometimes (I also used to use drugstore.com, but my new insurance doesn't use it). I would get my prescriptions in about two days.
It is pretty convenient for stuff you would take for some time (When I was using Vioxx, it would pretty much come when I needed it).
It isn't so good when you are sick NOW, if you know what I mean.

Ditto. It's good for maintenance stuff (i.e. allergy/asthma meds) but not much use if you say, oh, I don't know, end up with a bad sinus infection and need antibiotics ASAP. The initial set-up (forms, dr's scrips, all the paperwork) is a big PITA in my opinion.

ours just switched too. it is a large PITA for me to get about 8 scripts from doctors that cover both my husband and son. my son uses about 5 every month for maintanence. i hate the thought of some dimwit dropping his insulin on our front porch in 90 degree heat but i have NO CHOICE in this matter. just isn't money-smart at all to do the pharmacy thing anymore.
plus, the PPO is in bed with one glucose monitoring system and they will give you a "deal" on their supplies only. of course, we have 4 of the other meters in this house so we have to switch over to the bargain system. the meters cost $100 each.
sheeeeeeeesh. just getting the written prescriptions is PAIN enough for me.
i was beginning to get frustrated at that stupid pharmacy though. the line was 15 minutes long at times, frazzled pharmacists and now the cost will be a good bit higher to go there so i am opting to go completely mail order.

Ditto on the cost. The pharmacy cost for a one months' supply of a particular asthma maintenance drug is as much as it is for three month's through the mail. It's expensive enough regardless.
