Posted: 10/28/02 - 23:30 Post subject: Madison Hotels.......Holiday Inn West
FYI: for those looking into hotels: I stayed at the Holiday Inn West this weekend. My comments and opinions. This is a nice place if you are planning to take the fam with you for the marathon and your kids are very young. They have a small indoor water park with lifeguards. I would suggest NOT paying the extra for the executive floor (4th)...1st floor poolside is the best.

Thanks for the info Sue. Looks like it will be a family affair for us, we are most likely bringing the kiddies and making it an extra long weekend. One question for ya how far is it from the festivities? ie. Expo, start/finish and the the riff raff going on?? Thanks Jon

Yeah, we really do need to pick a RR hotel and get a block of rooms reserved at least. They always go the fastest.
Sue, are you coming to Madison, I hope??

I tried to post here when the server went down yesterday. The Holiday Inn West is among the hotels that are as far away from the festivities as you can be and still be in Madison. Here are a couple of much closer hotels, but I am not sure of prices:
Hawthorne Suites: (608) 284-1234
Sheraton Inn: (608) 251-2300
Holiday Inn Express: (608) 255-7400
There are more that would still be more handy, but these three are super close by to the finish line and post-race festivities.

Rando, are they also conducive to a "pub crawl", i.e. how far is the happenin' part of town from there? Remember, the races themselves are only a couple hours out of our weekend, we wanna stay near the action too! I'd feel more comfortable if no one had to drive (or as few of us as possible given that some of y'all live local) after a night of partying.

About the only hotel downtown that might be remotely affordable that I know of is Howard Johnson's. Phone: 608.251.5511. There's also the new Hilton Terrace Hotel, cheapest rate is $208/night! The Holiday Inn West is MUCH further from downtown. The other three would be a short cab right if nothing else.

Wow, you are good!!!
And why is it we decided against the host hotel again? I don't even remember which it is. Is there a Marriott in town? They are usually reasonable and decent quality.
And we can always share, a lot of us do that normally to cut costs, that's an option.

Book me at the motel 6. $58/night
Rando, why not stay on the East side. There are a lot of hotels and they aren't all beacup dollars??? We could take the bus downtown.

After my first marathon, I think I am going to want a bed to sleep in.
