I'm so disappointed today. I was looking for a PR and really feel that a poorly organized race cost me that. Yes, it was hot, very hot in fact. But I had put in the training and have said many time I love the heat n humidity. I thrive in it. I felt great pretty much the entire race. so what happened? I am used to training and drinking plenty of water/gatorade. I take fluids at every stop, always. I perfected the running/drinking thing by tucking a straw into my sport bra using it by crushing the cup around the straw and drinking on the run never stopping. Imagine my surprise as I approached the first waterstop and had a volunteer hands me an empty cup and points to another volunteer holding a small pitcher of water!!?? WTF??? I wanted 3 cups, one over my head, 2 to drink. Needless to say, I waited. And now imagine that this happens again at the very next waterstop. Unbelieveable and completely inexcusable in my opinion. This happened prolly 2 more times during the 13.1 miles. I was within a minute of my PR and this no doubt cost me. My official time was 2:29:54. I could have been 2:15-2:20 easily. The waterstop thing really broke my focus and brought me outta my zone. Kinda stupid prolly but the simplest little things can make such a huge difference to me.
It was a great Riff Raff weekend though. Good friends, good food n plenty of beer!
The marathon was cancelled 1:45 min. early too also due to heat. They quit taking times at 5:15 clock time.

To quote Frank Costanza, "Let the airing of the grievances begin."
Looking at how you looked at the finish, you definitely should have PR'd this - you may want to see your chip time - if they were off one minute for you, like they were me, then you may have gotten your PR. The stopping of the race notwithstanding, they have some big issues here if they want to get this race back where it was just a couple years ago.

I'd be totally pissed off. Not sure how that would happen.

sounds like craptastic planning....
sounds like you finished strong in spite of the pissyass amounts of fluids rationed out to you on such a hot day. you would have PR'd so i feel your disappointment, sorry JU. don't overlook your painfree 13.1 miles in the heat. excellent effort, strong finish, look ahead to another half and you'll go in more confident because of this one.
congrats on your finish
and i'm trying that dang straw thing if i ever get out there for a long run again!

Yeah, I really am. I heard some people saying that they didn't have enough volunteers this year which falls back on the race director I believe. You had 365 days to plan for this dammit! Oh yeah and how bout being handed a bottle of water at the end of the race that was room temperature(92degrees). Lots of organizational issues here.

Plus there were the guys in the 5K who were sent the wrong direction and wound up running extra.

Not that I'm any great authority on race decorum...being from a bucolic area and all ( ) but this one really bit the big one.
they knew it was going to be hot. one usually expects humidity with the heat in this area.... duh..... ICE ICE baby. cool em down. get the fluids ready and available people. Refunds to anyone's request should be accorded. it doesn't give you back your time and effort, but it might be entry funds to another race to do it another day.
You'd of had it Debbie. 2:20 I know it. I've seen you put in the time and effort. You looked MAHvelous crossing that line (even if the dude running barefoot got ya by a toenail ). you were healthy, well, physically...

Congrats on the finish. I'm somewhat surprised they had so many problems with their water stations. This marathon normally gets pretty good marks.

Vacillate.
As in, "I vacillate about wanting to move to a more bucolic location."
