OK, we've decided it's time to break down and get one. (We'll be sharing it, as we don't run at the same time.) We don't want to spend tons if we don't have to. I want the arm band, Mr. Go/R2 doesn't care.

What do you suggest? TIA.

I have the Rio Cali 128MB player. You can see the info @ Amazon (link). Memory can be upgraded, and it's light and comfortable. As the reviews say, the software leaves much to be desired. I'll end up buying a better software package I tried out (Sveta) that allows one to rip tracks to the desired rate (to save space). The reviews on Amazon really poop on it, but I've been very satisfied so far.

I have the Rio Cali also and love it. It is very durable and even holds up when it hits the street and you kick it(accidently of course) across the road and it whacks the curb. I've been very happy with it. The arm band can get rather stinky though but washes fine.

I had a great Samsung YEPP model that I lost in late May after my first tri. Evil or Very Mad Loved it; never had a problem with it. Then I got a MPIO one (the one you saw at your house) that broke due to high humidity. Returned it and got another one, broke again under the same circumstances. I'm in the process of having the manufacturer fix it. I currently have an IRiver iFP-800. I managed to break the first one last week due to high humidity (though I'm starting to think this is all from excessive sweat due to high mileage as I armband it ). This time I bought the 2 year no hassle protection/return plan at Best Buy. Exchanged it with no questions on Sunday, and used it successfully yesterday and this morning. Great that it holds up to 8 hours of music and plays for up to 20 on a single AA battery.

I've got an RCA Lyra with 128 MB of RAM. It works just dandy. My only complaint is that it's hard to skip songs when it's in the arm band holster.

That was 1 reason I went with the Cali, you can skip songs very easily as it is very exposed in the arm band. The holster is a molded softer plastic. It also seems to do well with humidity and sweat.

I have the RCA k@zoo which is an older model but it works well for me. I like the armband too although the earphone cord still flops around when I run and gets on my nerves. They need to make these damn things wireless!!! I think I got it at Target for less than $100 and I bought a memory card upgrade at Radio Shack--it holds a couple hours' worth of music which is fine for me for now.

except I have one other complaint. When your tile floor jumps up and snatches the MP3 puts it on the volume button side, the volume won't work anymore.

Do you run with it strapped to the bottom of your shoe? I've never had a problem with mine.

During lunch I bought the Rio Forge Sport. I'll post a report after tomorrow night's run.

I just picked up a MPIO 256MB FL100 yesterday. I will have to test it throughly but it has some nice features. It has the ability to add memory with Smart Media Cards. It also has a voice record option. I don't know that I will use this but it is there.
