Posted: 04/04/06 - 06:49 Post subject: MEAN teacher issue -- final UPDATE.
so yesterday, the 6th grade had an "allowed" recess and they went outdoors after lunch. the grassy areas were open to play, even though they were wet. my daughter ran around in the grass and her KSwiss shoes had muddied bottoms when she re-entered the school. if you know this shoe, you know the bottom is basically flat with little, if any, crevice for mud to cake in....beside the point.....she found mud and it was on her shoe bottom.
went to math class with mean teacher. this is the teacher that gives dum dums and smarties to her students. my daughter has managed an A in this class all year. she has worked her azz off in there. apparently, littlerock dropped some mud from her shoes under her desk while in math class.
littlerock goes on to science class across the hall. ms. meanteacher knocks on the science room door and demands that littlerock be excused with her. she then takes littlerock into the math class, filled with another class, and points out the mud beneath her desk and has her get on her hands and knees to clean up the mess while the math class watches. my daughter was completely mortified at this and some wonderful boy in the class got down with her and helped her clean it up. she then had to go back to science.
littlerock was very upset when she got home. i think the teacher plays off of kids' sensitivities in a very cruel way and this is a case in point. my kid did not mean to dirty the rug, it was completely unconscious on her part. it was not done purposely but the teacher treated her as if she'd done it with malice.
she was still upset last night so i emailed the teacher very simply asking for the story as my daughter is so upset. nothing more nothing less.
am i being over sensitive? these are 12 and 13 yo kids -- image is everything, everyone is so self-conscious and "aware" of each other. i think what she did to littlerock was cruel and insensitive as she made an example of her in both classes. LOOK AT HER!!

it was unnecessary to embarass stevie like that. there was mud everywhere in our building yesterday. it happens. You have a right to question this.

You should inquire if the teacher's done this sort of stuff to others. As in inquire with the school office, not just other parents.

That's just wrong and unnecessary. I would not only talk to her, but I'd make sure her boss knows too. That totally ticks me off.

that's what i'm thinking and you know, I pay their salary.
this is the teacher that lead the charge against 6th grade recess, effectively cancelling it in place of math extension time. these kids get recess about once a week, if they're lucky.
littlerock was probably so happy to get out of school for 30 minutes, well, she actually ran around like a kid.

You don't even wanna know what I'd do. Completely uncalled for. And why, if the grass was wet, were they allowed to play in it anyway? Maybe whoever was in charge of the kids at recess should get there nose rubbed in it. I'd be pist.

Have the teacher go to JU's gym for fund-raising!

I think that is terrible. I would not only address the teacher, but the principal as well. The teacher's behavior was totally out of line.
I also think the stuff with the dum dums and smarties should be brought to the principal's attention as well. What an awful thing to do to kids self esteem
