Lately I have been really struggling to get up in the morning for my runs. I am not sure if it is because of long days at work or what but on the mornings on when I plan to get up early and head out to try and get a long run in I just can't . If I don't get going on some mileage, my December marathon could be a long slow painful one.

Cooler weather is coming, that'll definitely make it easier.

I sure hope so. It is just way to tough to try and run 8 - 12 miles in the lunchtime heat right now. Plus the fact that work has me very busy makes it real tough to squeeze in that much time off during a lunch time run.

For starters, you don't have to run the marathon in December. If it is going to be long, slow and painful, why even bother, you're beaten before you start.
If I were you I would change my training right around and by that I don't mean cross training. Forget about the marathon in December for the moment.
What's your best time for a 1,500m.?
Chances are you have never tried your self out over the distance. Give yourself at least 3 weeks of shorter more intensive work 3 times per week, then run a time trial. Without me writing out a program, continue on with much the same shorter, sharper type of running and continue to run a time trial, better still a race every week. It will take about 6 hard races over 6 to 8 weeks to really hit your straps.
My bet is Florida, that you will end up with a new PR., feel completely refreshed and still have time to get in a couple of long runs before you run the marathon should you still decide to run it.
Don't let the tail wag the dog Florida.

I'm going through the same problem right now. My mileage is way down and I seem to find every excuse not to run including not getting up on time on weekends.
To take care of my weekend problems I have rejoined Galloway and start back with them on October 14. I'm packing my gym bag each night so that on days I see I must work 10 hours or more I can take a 2 hour lunch break at LA Fitness and get my daily run in on the treadmill if I can't get home in time for them in the afternoon.

A few things that help me when my motivation seems to be slipping...
1) music or running podcasts
2) reading about running -- if i read about running - stories or training ideas - the night before my run, the morning run is easier to deal with
3) mentally i continue to remind myself how i feel when i run (good) - compared to how I feel when I skip a run (bad)
Not sure if any of that helps. We all deal with motivation differently.

I agree. Change your routine, or make your runs special. Sometimes I overanalyze my performance (or lack thereof) and need to just run. I'm not
a coach and have only ran 1 marathon, but maybe cross-training? Ride a bike for a bit. When I trained for my marathon I figured that to complete the marathon I would have to get used to running when I did not want to.

Look for local clubs or a running buddy. Try the Nike Air + program and challenge people online.
