Well, I just have to be honest with you. I am looking for someone to talk to and maybe get to know better at a later date. I am from South Texas where I am a Teacher/Coach at a middle school.

Oh, you'll find a LOT of talkers here..... We have a really good time, so hang out and join in the fun!! There's a small contingent of Texans here which is growing by the minute so you'll feel right at home soon!!!
What do you teach and what sport(s) do you coach?

I teach 8th grade health during the fall semester and 7th grade career skills during the spring. I really enjoy teaching health, but could do without the career skills. I coach football (my favorite), basketball (my least favorite), and track. I really enjoy all of them but am mainly a football type of coach. Imagine that.

Actually, career skills education is something sorely lacking in our schools, you are making a great contribution!! I always have said that our kids don't graduate with enough practical knowledge and that more attention should be paid to not only that, but stuff like how to balance a checkbook, stay within a budget, things they will need to know once they're out on their own. Health is fun with kids at that age, but they can get silly about the sex ed stuff.
What kind of stuff are you teaching? Is it like tech school, or more practical use?

Right now we are taking a look at each students interest. This will lead us to looking at careers that might meet those interest. Don't get me wrong, the things that I teach are things that they might not get anywhere else and I love being able to give them that info. I am just not as knowlegeable on the subj., therefor I don't like it as much. One of the challenges that I have is that most of these students come from very poor backgrounds and don't believe that there is any live for them outside this community. All they know is what is here, and we are only an hour from houston.

That is SO cool, I envy you the opportunity to make such a significant difference to these kids. There's probably a great deal of info on the Internet that you could tap into in areas you aren't familiar with. I've done some mentoring with inner city kids through our Science Institute where I work (pharmaceutical industry) so please feel free to PM me if I can help!
