They took away all our Kmarts (out of the whole state I believe) a couple years ago. Unfortunately too, most of the Kmarts here in town are not only still vacant buildings, but the entire shopping center they occupied is a ghost town now too as the smaller shops couldn't survive once the big draw was gone (or the other major shop in many of them was the also long gone Service Merchandise). So its been a bitter loss all around. I liked Kmart.

NO WAY!!
What did I just say in that other Wal*Mart thread?.. that you can count on America to change and Wal*Mart won't top the charts forever. This is probably 'the event' that people will look back on in ten years and call it the beginning of the end.

Sounds to me like it's just a plan for Sears to expand into existing KMart buildings, while still being able to hold on to some of KMarts exclusive products.

Actually I see this as copying Target & Marshall fields (Daytons and others). This could be a good move for them, but only time will tell.

Does that mean I'll be able to get that hot line of Kate Jackson clothing at my fine Sears establishment now?

I wish, but I doubt it. Both Sears and Kmart have struggled in the last several years. So there isn't one strong brand here to meld with and carry the other. Second, and as a result, combined they still only make a distant 3rd in US retailers, behind monster Wal-mart and Home Depot. Third, they will remain independent brands (ie, sorry PH and Sahara but you'll still have to go to Sears for your Lands End turtlenecks and then drive to Kmart for your Jaclyn Smith collection). So, in areas like mine where Kmart is gone and Sears is hard to find, Wal-mart will still dominate.

If they want to survive, a website and mail order are the way to go.
In Alaska, Sears was one of our mainstays, especially for equipment and tires.
Walmart has been slowly expanding their website. Before they didn't offer clothes, and now they even have textbooks for sale.
Sears is slowly starting to expand their website, too, but they need to get on it in order to keep/attract some more customers.
