If they want to survive, a website and mail order are the way to go.
In Alaska, Sears was one of our mainstays, especially for equipment and tires.
Walmart has been slowly expanding their website. Before they didn't offer clothes, and now they even have textbooks for sale.
Sears is slowly starting to expand their website, too, but they need to get on it in order to keep/attract some more customers. |
Yeah, I think you are right. I'm sure they lost a lot when they cut out the catalog department of Sears.

I still cannot get over that I can buy Land's End @ Sears. WTF?
I'd like K-Mart better if they didn't sell Martha's stuff. Ick.Gag.Choke. That woman ain't right.

That move baffled me! Aside from being a place where 70's and 80's little boys could safely look at wimmins in their undawears, it was a great catalog!
I wonder if they are kicking themselves for that or if they are going to move forward and computerize....

Some of those wimmins had industrial-strength manties on, no?
Kind of the "lunch lady of old" lingerie look.
I can't understand why VS hasn't copied that line of undawears.....

NPR interviewed some business expert today that said this merger will prolly only put off the inevitable. Sears isn't positioned very well in the market place, KMart hasn't been doing well. He actually said that this is a temporary fix, and that neither one will likely be around in 6 years.

| Yeah they dropped that, and we had to go back to looking in windows.

I thought they were one size fits most.

I never thought KMart had it together. It always felt yucky in there. Target gets it. At -K-mart, I felt like a welfare recipient. At Target, I felt like a savvy shopper.
I used to rely on Sears for large home things like refrigerators. But now I hate it there, I try not to go there.
In my head, they'll both be gone soon and the best we can hope for is that someone else (Target?) buys up Lands End.

One thing nice about the Target in our area, is that there is Krispy Kreme store in the parking lot

I love Target. They rock. Even if ours doesn't have KK anywhere near it.

If the merger means no more commercials with Penny Marshall and Rosie O'Donnell, then it's a good move.
