my team of wayward 14 yr olds will try to improve upon their 0-1 record tonight. Unfortunately, my 3rd baseman will miss the game. Because he's in a dance competition that apparently has higher priority. Personally, if I'm a 14 yr old male I certainly wouldn't let that little tidbit of info get out.
We took a commanding 4-2 lead after the first inning in our first game and then the wheels promptly fell off. Two grounders thru the legs of infielders, three baserunning errors to run us out of innings and an overall defensive ineptitude that left me scratching my head.
This has the potential to be a lonnnnnng season.

well that's certainly interesting that they gave the actual reason. but if it's something the kid likes to do, and he likes baseball too.....more power to him. no reason that doing one should exclude the other.
but I agree that it could cause him problems should he make that general knowledge......

In that case, he is doing the right thing...
Actually, I agree with Steve. More power to him.

a few years ago one of my students, a 6th grade boy, had some trouble making a rehearsal for me......it was because he was in a figure skating competition. Truly, there was nothing odd about the kid. He liked skating, and was good at it. his parents took him far to practice, and had invested a lot of money in him and his goals. they tried to keep him in "normal" activities as much as they could. but it wasn't common knowledge at school that he was a skater.
