Both my kids are involved in little league (softball/teeball), and last night was my daughter's first softball game.

At this level, no scores are officially kept, all the kids play and bat, and the respective coaches pitch. Someone forgot to tell some of the parents that this is supposed to be fun for the kids. Some of the language and criticisms were to say the least colorful.

Let the kids have some fun, geez they are 7 and 8 years old.

You know, those of us in the coaching profession have often said it would be best to coach at an orphanage. No parents.

The parents are by far the biggest p.i.a. when it comes to organized sports for kids. Everyone is convinced their kid is the next A-rod.

I had a parent call me up a couple of weeks ago and leave me a nastygram on the message machine. Seems junior walked home from practice when he was supposed to have a ride. And it was my fault the kid walked home because his ride wasn't there.

1) I didn't know where the kid lived.
2) He didn't tell me he didn't have a ride - he just left. A lot of my kids walk to the field, I figured he lived close by.
3) I don't recall anything that said I was also a chauffeur in addition to being a coach.
4) These are 13-14 yr old boys - it's not like he was a 7 yr old wandering the streets.

If a kid needs a ride, I give him one. I do it almost daily. Somebody better tell me he needs a ride though.

LOL

yessir...like the time the parents were mad at me, because I was upset when their daughter showed up late for the bus, and didn't have her uniform because she "lost" it.

It was somehow my fault. dunno WTF?

Oh yeah, the reason dad couldn't give ol Jake a ride was because he's under house arrest and wearing an ankle bracelet. Apparently grandpa couldn't read the schedule since I think that's who's been driving him around. I called the yoyo back twice to verbally abuse him but he won't return calls.... I WILL have words with this idiot before the season is out.

OK, I heard about that yesterday...and I really think it deserves it's own thread.

That guy deserves to be fired, and have his teaching certificate revolked, and I don't know...probably popped in the mouth a couple of times.

Prick.

I thought it was funny. Every team has one, why not recognize it?

What about yelling at the coach too? He needs to realize that she's the next female Pelé.

so you're going easy on her?

I scream the obscenities as my kids get up to bat, or as they are running onto the field.

My wife used to coach grade school (CYO League) girl's BBall. The first year she was asked (begged actually) to coach the team made up of girls no other coach wanted. She had about 13 girls on the team.

After the second game, one parent approached her and said something to the effect "you only played ____ for about 2 minutes...) Wife had to explain it was a rather large team and she was still trying to get the rotation in. The next day (a Sunday) ____ was not there at all. When my wife asked the other girls they said ____ had gone skiing. She was present for the next Saturday game.

Her season went very well. She took these "scrubs" to the league quarter finals. So much for not being wanted. As an aside my wife was the only female coach in our area. There were other female coaches.

You may have read about my town in the papers where there was a fight between the parents of two teams of 11 year old hockey players. Two parents were arrested, a couple of others given tickets to appear in court. Seems some parents did not like some calls... You know what the kids were doing when the fights were going on ? They were crying !!

Nice freakin way to set an example folks !!!
