I've seen this mentioned before, that if Kerry doesn't win, he's going to take the election results to court (this is assuming he wins the popular vote and doesn't get enough electoral).

If Kerry wins the Electoral Votes and loses the popular vote, do you think Bush would take the results to court?

I say nay.

Edited to add: If either candidate loses both the popular vote and the electoral vote, they don't have a soapbox to stand on anymore.

The DNC claims it will deploy 10,000 lawyers to battleground states to watch for irregularities. They brag about five legal "SWAT teams" ready to fly to any quintet of states where recounts are warranted.

Yes, I believe Bush will take it to court. Why do you think he wouldn't?

Yes, I think both of them will fight to the end to win this election. I'm just curious as to why Ms. Jenn thinks Bush wouldn't.

I hope this isn't going to be the norm for our elections now on. The loser goes to court.

And to be clear, if Bush would have an outright victory, I don't think Kerry would fight it (or vice versa). I'm only talking about if the race is as close as last time.

I think either party should if there seems to be a big discrepency in the results vs the polls and rumors of shenanigans. I always thought that Bush should have asked for recount in WI in 2000.

I guess the question that I have, is who should pay for the recount if there is a discrepancy, the state(s), candidates

In theory, the candidates. Election campaign finance laws don't apply to post-election stuff like this. They've got loads of money they can raise for this. A lot of this was seen after the 2000 vote.

Drudge is reporting that 2000 votes were found on various Philadelphia-area voting machines.

Quote:
Before voting even began in Philladelphia -- poll watchers found nearly 2000 votes already planted on machines scattered throughout downtown... One incident occurred at 2601 N. 11th St., Philadelphia, Pa: Ward 37, division 8... pollwatchers uncovered 4 machines with planted votes; one with over 200 and one with nearly 500... A second location, 1901 W. Girard Ave., Berean Institute, Philadelphia, Pa, had 300+ votes already on 2 machines at start of day... INCIDENT: 292 votes on machine at start of day; WARD/DIVISION: 7/7: ADDRESS: 122 W. Erie Ave., Roberto Clemente School, Philadelphia, Pa.; INCIDENT: 456 votes on machine at start of day; WARD/DIVISION: 12/3; ADDRESS: 5657 Chew Ave., storefront, Philadelphia, Pa... Developing...

With all the stuff already going on in OH & FL -- This is a great way to start Election Day, don't you agree?

The only way i see any justification for legal action is not if a candidate wins the popular vote but loses the electoral. There can be clear cut winners in each state and that still happens. The justification i see is if there is irregularity or that there is no consensus over a vote count in a ridiculously close state.
