How often in your running do you literally open it up with all you got? Now I'm not talking intervals on the track or striders to loosen up. I'm talking about 100-meter pace, gotta save someone from the oncoming train, up on your toes, sprinting like Carl Lewis running.
Do ya?

You mean you don't run like that all the time??? Very Happy I'd have to say never, but I'm so slow, you probably couldn't tell the difference anyway.

this nasty little kid on a bike in my neighborhood (who pretends he's going to hit me when I'm running) , chanted this: think you can beat me? think you can beat me? What a little naughty! so I opened up my stride and took off. I beat him. I know juvenile, but it was fun. he doesn't pretend to hit me anymore. Wink

I try to finish up the last 200 meters of my three mile runs wide open at least once a week and sometimes twice.

I do that sometimes at the tail end of some races but strangely not that often on training runs

That is exactly where my little tagline "wanna race" comes from. Any taunting from anyone on the street, that's my comeback.. Wanna race? And heck, it's great fun to show little juvies that an old sweaty man can smoke 'em!

nevah..........at least not to that extent....but I have been accused of "opening up" when I catch a female on the radar screen during a long run.

The last 100 yds. of my first duathlon was the last time I really opened up. I could hear this guy gaining on my and I didn't want to let him pass me but he did on the last 5 yds. Great kick, but I'm dang lucky I didn't puke in the chute.

That's my favorite part of the race...that final 'kick' in the home stretch...

But when I'm training I never go 'balls to the wall'....nor do I ever run like a bat outta hell.

(there was a joke in there somewhere I'm pretty sure)

I like to open up on the last quarter mile of every run. About the only exception is long runs because I'm already so drained. I just feel like I have to give it my all at the end. And I agree, it's the best part of the race.
