I got my chip in 2001 - how long do these things last? Has anyone ever heard of one failing? Also, after my last race in November I just left it on my shoe and train in those shoes. Since it's just a chip I assume there's no problem leaving it there.

I don't think it should die unless you do something really heinous to it. It's not like there's a battery in it, and I don't know how you could manage to damage the rest of the components.

thanks for the opinions. I'm planing on running 9 scored races with the NYRR this year to guarantee my entry to NYC 2007 - I'd hate to miss by one cause my chip quit!
