Yes, you read it right. I heard about this tri, in my town, exactly one week before it was to be held. And besides the fact that I haven't biked or swam a lick all summer....I decided to do it.

400 meter swim (in the MO river)
12 mile bike ride
5K

Short version:
I lived! and actually ran a decent 5K after all that other crap.

Long version
SWIM --my thoughts....
It's Cold! Hey! He kicked me! She just kicked water in my mouth! Cough! I can't breathe! I'm gonna die!
I'm gonna die....(I hit the first marker and decide that this was a huge mistake, I never should have tried it, and the possibility of drowning was a real possibility)
At the halfway point, I realize I'm gonna live, and as I come in from the water...I'm startled to find that I actually beat 6 people out of the water.

Bike...This was a tough course. first 1 and 1/2 miles are up a hill, then the next 4 1/2 miles were into the wind...by the time we hit the turnaround, I was shot. The second half was much easier though.

Run... Piece of cake... I caught four people on the run, and could have caught a lot more if it would have been longer. Ran a 22:35 5K, which I was really surprised to see after all of that other stuff.

So, anyway. I can now say I've done a tri. With no training no less.

I am greatly impressed. Especially that you swam in the Misssouri River and lived to tell the tale. I grew up on the banks of the Missouri, and had it drilled into my head to never go into the river for any reason. I think that down my way there were a lot of whirlpools. Either that or the adults were trying to scare me.

But anyway, great job!!

Great job Coach,
Your swim descriptions sounds like what I imagine would happen at a tri for me.

Congratulations on finishing it and Good luck if you decide to go longer!

Just what out for Injun Joe.
