well, Mikey is mysteriously missing this am, so I'll tell it and he can add to it.

We met up at Mt. Airy park in the dog park area. Mt. Airy Park is a pretty large forest-type park on the west side of Cincinnati, which means that is is extremely hilly.

We hung out there for about 45 minutes to an hour before the has actually got started. We had a pre-hash circle where the virgins were introduced, went over the trail markings, and the hares were off. Then, Fecal led the group in a rendition of Father Abraham, ehich I had never heard before. I stopped laughing somewhere around the first mile of the hash.

Finally, we were off.

This particular hash was the 400th forour kennel, so it was a celebration of sorts. It was my 5th in the kennel and 7th overall (I've hashed twice in Dayton, also)

We headed out through the dog park, down muddy, slippery trail, down into rocky, leaf-covered trail to a creek bed. There were many, many checks along the way. At one point, we lost the trail and had to listen for whistles to get back on track. We were up, down, up down, for a long, long, time.

Mike did great! He easily could have led the pack! I, my sick ass, was dragging arse! I think at one point I cought up a lung!

We climbed out of the creek, up a hill, and the trail led down into another creek. The rest of the pack was climbing out of the mud on the other side, but Mike spotted trail down around the bend ona rock, and we just crossed the creek and waded through some sludge to get to a tunnel. We went throught the tunnel to find another set of tunnels, a Turkey/ Eagle.

This is the point in the trail where you can choose easy (Turkey) or advanced (Eagle). Our group chose Eagle and went into a tunnel about 1/8 mile long. The sewer pipe, as it turned out to be was completely black. We finally made it to the other side and there was nowhere to go. It emptied into water over waist-high!

Mike grabbed onto the top of the tunnel and just did a chinup and up he went. I was like Shocked

I'm Not Gay, and NO BALLs pulled the rest of us up and we freaking crawel up a hill to the first BN> where we enjoyed beer, twix bars and pepermint schnapps.

Then there was a series of more freaking killer hills and rocks, only one hasher bit it! and another BN... only about a mile in between!

My fingers are getting tired, so I will let you know that we did have a picture Check, so there is film proof of this run, another 3 or 4 miles of hills, rocks, water, trees, and in general debauchery....

I had a great time and am glad Msparks finally turned out for a hash...

too bad he had to take off and could not make it to the on-after, where it got out of hand again..... He would look great in a feather boa!

That sounds like an awesome time!

I could get into doing something like that once my feet are fixed! Shirtboy would be into it too, if it involved feather boas! And he'd already have a name!

(Oh wait, I don't live there any more... Sad )

Observations of a Virgin Hasher

So much to say, so few words in the dictionary.

My mentor, Jen, graciously consented to educate me about the world of hashing. She assured me that it wouldn't be as rigorous as I'd imagined. I have a fertile imagination. I've hiked in the Great Smoky Mountains. I've run in Laramie, Wyoming, elevation 7000' above sea level. And then I hashed in Mt. Airy Forest. It seemed to be a combination of the two. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

Pre-Hash

Father Abraham: Imagine a 50' diameter circle of adults, hopping around, waving arms and legs, in song...in full view of the public. The people in the dog park, pets included, seemed to stop and stare. And well they should.

The Tunnel

It seemed to be never-ending. The darkness was unquestionable...walking, with hands outstretched, so that you wouldn't walk into the person directly in front of you. You couldn't see them...or the water...or the stones. But they were there. The pinpoint of light, far into the distance, grew ever larger. At the end? A waist-deep pool of water. Climbing out of the tunnel was best accomplished with help from those who'd gone first. Or you could use your best monkey skills.

Thankfully, the first Beer Near was close by and a welcome respite...unless you were one of those who so foolishly partook of the peppermint schnapps, in addition to the beer.

Shiggy

It wasn't nearly as awful as might be expected but, combined with the hilly nature of the trail, proved to be somewhat hazardous...and a good reason to not wear new shoes.

The Remainder

Did I mention hills? Up, down...up, down. Always. Walking was welcomed but, due to the hills, not as restful as it might be. It was a struggle. At the On In, it was about a quarter-mile...of course, uphill.

Would I do this again? Absolutely.

Where's the Beer Near, eh?

Thank you! I will check it out and let you know. Mr. Green It's gonna be about a year before any running happens for me.

However, I have acquired some mad yoga stretching skillz in the interim. Perhaps that will help me in sewer pipe climbing.

Seriously, I used to love trail running the most of all, especially with the dog, because she had so much fun too....Columbus had some great off trail-trails and those were the best running experiences for me (except for the 2000 Pig, of course.)
