Do we really need to have 7 game series playoffs for these sports?

The teams determined to be in the playoffs should be similar to the NFL playoffs.

During the playoffs there is one game per pair of teams. If your team loses then your team is out and the winner advances to the next round.

That (best-of-7s) doesn't bother me as much as giving damn near every team a playoff spot (as the initiator of this, we can thank the NHL). Depending on the number of teams in a league, no more than the top four teams get in. Maybe - just maybe, for keeping the fans coming to the games - a couple wild cards (as MLB has). But that's it.

Baseball is fine. Hockey and Basketball have too many teams making the playoffs.

they used to have best of 5 in the early rounds. But, as the player contracts went through the roof, you have to pay them somehow.

Football should play 4-5 times a week. Then they could have a fall and spring season.

All of the pro seasons are too long: MLB, NHL, NBA. You could easily lop 4 - 6 weeks off those seasons and not to many people would notice/complain.

Specifically, the MLB season shouldn't start before mid-April. Home openers at the end of March is problematic in many cities, not just the Northern ones. They could end the MLB regular season in early/mid Sept. and actually conclude the Fall Classic (i.e. World Series) in October again. The MLB schedule would also benefit by aligning more with the current school calendar. Less games when school is still in session.

There is a glut of games in reality and on the tube. It used to be a big deal to go to a pro sporting game. A special event. I don't see that being the case anymore.

No doubt pro sports are over-saturated. I watch almost no baseball until October, because a regular season game is just one of 162. An individual game means so little in the course of a season that I can't justify spending 2-3 hours watching it (rip away, baseball purists).

Football is my favorite spectator sport, in part because they only play once a week (although the NFL season is too long, too). Every game means more. Even it is becoming over-saturated in that you can watch either a college or pro football game on television every single night of the week during the fall. How did we ever survive before ESPNII brought us Tuesday night college football?

This situation will never change because it's all about the money. More games means more ticket and broadcast revenue.

You're quite right. As much as I love basketball, there is no way to watch all the games. Ever.

And Baseball seems like it is on at least 10 channels every night of the week. The part of baseball that bothers me is it seems like they can go on into 38 innings and still not be anywhere near the end.

True.

My point should've been that MLB has things best under control of the major leagues.

The NHL was better when there was only 6 teams.

Or so I've heard - I'm too young to REALLY know.
