Hi Chasedad,
Try this: sit with your sore leg straight out. You'll have to turn your foot toward the inside so the outside of your leg is toward the top. Then put your opposite heel at the top of the muscle that runs along the outside of your leg. Press down and run your heel along the entire length of your leg, all the way down to your ankle. It will probably hurt about 2-3" down from your knee joint.
This is the peroneal muscle (actually two muscles) and they cause the pain pattern you are mentioning. The movement this muscle generates is to lift up the outside of your foot, so you're putting your weight onto your big toe.
