Posted: 01/23/07 - 23:23 Post subject: Left Leg Pain...only after runs though???
Hi,
I am new to this forum. I am also somewhat new to the "lifestyle" of running. I joined the cross country team at my college and my first season will be in the Fall Semester or 2007. I have been running since the middle of October. I would run for a 30 minutes 5 days a week, Saturday would be a light day, 20 minute slow run, and Sunday would be a 40 minute run (FYI: times recommended by my coach). So my Spring Semester 2007 has started and I am now at a steady 7 minute mile pace. However, over x-mas/winter break, I was only able to run about 4 0r 5 time "outside", about 3-4 miles for each run. Now that we are all back on campus and the team is training for a road race (the Utica Boilermaker 15K), Coach is having us start at 5 miles a day, 5 days a week (30-35 miles a week). Well, I am stuck on a treadmill because of very cold and snowy conditions.
Okay, now that everyone knows what I have been doing, here's my question...FINALLY...lol.
I have been experiencing ankle/shin pain in my left ankle since I started back on the treadmill. Is this normal? My coach said that it could be from not running that much because of winter break, and then starting back on the treadmill (Note: when I did run over break, it was outside). Now it only hurts severly at the end of my runs. Walking hurts, and pressure on that ankle will hurt as well. It will hurt a little bit the next morning, but after I am moving around for a while, it goes away for the MOST part. What could this be? Shin Splints? Stress Fracture? Please Help me. I am running a 15K road race in July.
(I have Asics shoes, and had them fitted by a running shoe salesman. coach recommended them)
Sorry for the length
