I've driven several POSs in my day, but I think the one with the least value was surprisingly the newest car I'd driven until the one I'm driving now, it was a 1990 dodge dynasty that should have been recalled to the factory. A/C leaked frion (sp), had no heat, then wouldn't even blow air by the time I chucked it, 2 windows wouldn't go down, 1 would go down and not up, 2 seatbelts didn't work, the radio went off when you made right turns the battery died a/b twice weekly in the last year I owned it, the gas tank wouldn't open the normal way so I would have to use the emergency release from the trunk each time I had to fill up, which was often, it only got 7 mpg (on the highway, I think less in the city). It wouldn't go in reverse, or not for at least 5-10 minutes of sitting in a parking space (so the idea is to pull through wherever you park) The glove box wouldn't shut, paint was non-existant and it was rusting (because why wash a car like this? so salt would stay on the car all winter) and the winner was the "Dyna" of Dynasty fell off on the back, so it was actually a Dodge sty, which was fitting. I know I'm forgetting some of the more fun details... |
OMG. this is the most hysterical thing i have read on this forum....i can't stop laughing.
the "Sty" is the icing on the cake. i'm crying.

I think Cheryl wins at least for humor content! I'm dying here!!!
Probably the lovely $200.00 Fiat we have sitting out back right now. Although it's gone from towable only to driveable since we bought it, I am working quickly on killing the clutch.
And who in the hell paints a perfectly good ecru colored vehicle faux racing green?

Well, I have a couple of beauties...but the topper..
1980 Dark Green Dodge Omni.
4 speed, stick.
I paid $400 on the lot for this car. Drove it for two years and sold it for $100. That car didn't owe me a dime. The guy who bought it from me drove it for about a month, when it quit running, he was less than a mile from home and started walking, when he turned around and looked, it was on fire!
The exhaust system was horrible. It sounded like an old tractor, which is why it was called "The John Deere".
When it was cold out(when does that ever happen in SD?) it wouldn't start because the engine's auto choke didn't work. So, to get it running I would have to pop the hood, open the carborator, put something on there to hold the choke down(i kept a hammer in the car for this purposed), hop back in, start the car, hop out, remove hammer, close carborator, close hood, get in and start to drive.
The heater was amazing on the car though. If I had it cranked all the way, the defrost would start to hurt your eyes!

Morris Minor 1000, sort of like a VW Bug, with the engine in the front.
The battery was bigger than the engine. You had to work on it for 2 hours, to get 1 hour of driving time.

Hmm. I'm going to go with our truck. Where to start with the problems?
Brakes are bad (only work on 1 wheel). Shocks are bad. Front-end alignment is shot (I get about 35 miles to the tire:)). 1 turn signal works. Windshield wipers worked until the wiper moter fell out. Now there is a big hole behind the dash that water and wind blow through. No seat belts. Exhaust has holes in the header that sometimes fills the cab with smoke. Doors only lock after they have been shut, but it doesn't matter since the driver side window doesn't lock. You can just pull it down with your hand. Power steering tends to fail. Gas guage is dead. Speedometer is off by about 5-10MPH. Frame is rusting out.
It starts for me and no-one else. To start it, I have to carry around a gas can and pour gas directly into the carburator. It is a four speed and the linkage is messed up so when you are in first or third, your knuckels are hitting the dash. When you are in second or fourth, your elbow is hitting the back of the cab. The floor of the cab has a few holes from rust. The bed is rusting out. A/C was never an option and the heater works sometimes. Typically only after you stop.
It does have a sun-roof!!! But it leaks.
On the good side. This truck is rated to carry 1/2 ton, but I have carried 1.5 tons several times in it. I drove it once with 1.5 tons in it for about 4 miles with no water pump and it was fine! THIS BEAST WILL NOT DIE!! My dad hit it with the farm tractor once. The truck just rolled forward with no damage. This truck also taught me and my brother how to drive. And how much did we pay to get this fine piece of machinery? 3 pigs and $100 about 15 years ago! Are the pigs still around? I know this truck is!

When I was 17 I bought a 1977 Monte Carlo for $300. The front end was primer grey and the rest was a blue color. What was left of the vinyl top was a tattered ruin. The gas gauge didn't work, which led me to run out of gas in the most unfortunate of situations about once a week. Dad finally got PO'd and made me pay $100 to get it fixed. The inside door\latch\handle thingie broke off on the driver side, so in order to get out of the car I had to exit on the passenger side. Finally that one broke too and I was exiting ala "Dukes of Hazzard" style. I did go to the junk yard and buy new handles but they didn't last.
The headliner was missing, only the brownish, orangy foam stuff left. Which left a huge mess at 80 MPH and the windows down. My friends and I often drew pictures or wrote silly stuff in it, when we weren't trying to coat each other with it. It usually took about 10 minutes to warm up, even in the summer time. If I put it it gear before it was good and ready, it would die. I also had to add a quart of oil everytime I got gas. The radio had to be propped on with a toothpick. It was a real b*tch when you hit a bump and lost your tunes. I could go on all day about this car! Finally my cars name was: Elroy.

Well... My first car I had was a 72 Super Beetle. My brother had owned it, taken it apart (1/2 of the car was in the basement) and then given up on restoring it. He gave it to me for my birthday present. My Dad and I restored it, but he didnt' think it was a good idea for me to drive it due to the fact it took weeks to get parts in. So I traded that for his old car an 88 Mercury Topaz. That was actually a really good car. I traded that in for my Plymouth Neon. That was a POS.
There was a bad ground in the radio so when you hit bumps it went back to AM, loud clunk if you turned left only (drive train), they replaced the drive train (I only had the car a week), but stripped the bolts on it and didn't replace them so I still had a semi-clunk. They fixed the oil leak before I got the car. Right as I paid it off, the head blew up on it and it overheated. We took the termostat out to sell it(trade in), if you listened though you could hear the anti-freeze boiling in the reservior.
To all the other stories. Pfff's was
