Welcome to the forums Joe! Everybody else pretty much summed up what I was going to say. You may want to check out the Runner's World Website (www.runnersworld.com) or Coolrunning (www.coolrunning.com) for some beginner training plans. It's going to be tough when you first start running but after 2 months or so depending on how committed you are, you should be able to see some results and running 2 miles won't be a problem for you anymore! I will like to emphasize what others have said: Running shoes are probably the most important gear for the sport if you want foot comfort and avoid injuries. It is essential that you get the right running shoes for you foot type. Go to a local running store and they will probably get your foot type checked. From there they can make some recommendations as to what type of shoes you should get.
BTW what kind of riding do you do? Mountain biking or road? Just curious cuz I did some mtn biking 3-4 years ago but I stopped doing it ever since I got into running. I am thinking of getting back into it some day b/c it's fun and you get dirty really quickly.
