Posted: 06/19/03 - 12:23 Post subject: Laser vision correction
I just found out that our medical benefits will pay for vision correction for me (right now, our next contract we will try to get spouses). Anyone have it or know anyone. Right now in this area is about $1000.00 per eye. My eye doc whom I have been going to for years can do the surgery so I will be meeting with him in a few weeks about it.

My BIL had it done and aside from the day of agony following the laser slice and bad night vision for a month, he's immensly happy. Statistically, the odds of it not going right are something like less than .5%, but still, the couple folks locally here that had it mess up (one a tear duct problem, the other a biggie mistake), I just can't bring myself to do it unless it was a slam dunk procedure.
The BIL also had his done in Canada. Not only to save money, but the research he did was pretty convincing. They have more modern lasers because it is done so much more there.. something like two generations newer than here in the states. And the success rate is even better than here. Something to look into possibly.
Tough decision I'd say.

I know quite a few people who have had it done. To a person, they all say it was the best decision they had ever made.
I am eventually going to get it done.

I'm hoping insurance does not cover it in the long run. That will be the kiss of death as far as any downward pressure on price is concerned.

It is a rider on our insurance policy for us. A benefit that was actually negotiated at contract time. We have a braces/eye surgery option up to $4000.00 per employee. It rocks.

I'd probably opt for the eye surgery over the eye braces too.

I only know one guy who has had it done. He's very happy with the results.

Tracy wants to get it done someday. I will actually miss her glasses - they look very nice on her!

Same here and I have a contact in Colorado that charges $ 600 to get it done.
I've toyed with it off and on the last year, glad to see others are in the same boat.

I would love to have it done. the price keeps droping and the lasers are getting better. I just have to get the SO to stop spending all my money

I'd love not to have to worry about contact/glasses so yes, I've thought of it. Not yet convinces; haven't done much research.
What are the implications for someone who might need bifocals in the next year or so? They would still need reading glasses after the surgery, yes?

I am blind as a bat without my glasses. So much so I cannot even wear disposable or daily wear contacts.
