That's fantastic!
Great job and a great report. I felt like I was there with you!
I hope your legs feel better, too.

I've gone faster on my other bike. I hit 45 MPH once when I was actually brave enough to pedal down a hill like that. I'm getting old or something. The thought of repaving the asphalt with my skin if I should fall off just doesn't sound appealing any more.

My hams are always tight and no I can't touch the floor (or even come close). It's just the way I was put together. I do stretch them everyday and I'm still tight in that area.

No offense to Rachel, but I'll stick with the lady that did it on Sunday.

Well no wonder you've got tight hammies.. having Godzilla Quads and all!! Good goin' John! With all the training you do, it's hard to imagine you're a newbie.. race-wise maybe, but you've done your time on the roads. Congrats again!

Except for cornering (which I need to work on) and passing on one of the larger hills, I stayed tucked in the whole race. I used one of these :: http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?category=&subcategory=&brand=1635&sku=2595&storetype=&estoreid= and except for hitting a large bump early in the race and spilling Gatroade all over myself, was really happy with it. I didn't see anyone else using one though. I never had to reach for a water bottle and was able to stay hydrated on the whole bike and never needed a drink on either run.

I loved it and couldn't believe that I didn't see anyone else there with one. I did see a lot of back-of-the-packers riding with Camelbaks though. I thought that was a little excessive for a 16 mile ride. Maybe they were just really, really thirsty.
