Cliff's Notes at bottom.

I've done this race twice before (and actually paid for registration for a 4th year, but had a stress fracture and didn't run). The first year was my very first multi-sport event. 2nd year, I cramped up really bad during the first run and had a crappy time. So, I've had really big hopes about this race this year and this is my first multi-sport event of the year.

Got to the race site pretty early and racked up my bike near the bike exit and laid out my bike stuff. Spotted Bill_Sev early on and talked with him for a bit before I headed out for a warm up run. Cool guy! Cool

Fast Forward>> At the starting line, I'm up close to the front but willing to hang back a bit because I had a long day ahead of me. Gun goes off and it's ON! First mile in an easy 5:50. Nothing major, I'm just shooting for 6 min. even. Hold back a bit and hit the 2 mile mark in 11:59. Right on target. 3rd mile (which, I swear, with God as my witness is longer than 1 mile (and most of the other racers agree)) in 18:45.

In and out of the transition in maybe a minute or so, kinda slow. It was cold and my sunglasses had fogged up and I had a little trouble putting on my helmet.

Out on the bike and it was smooth sailing for 16 miles. One BIG downhill where I hit 42 MPH. Other than that, nothing too special except THAT I'VE GOT MY #$(*#$ HELMET ON BACKWARDS! Embarassed Avg. bike speed of 20.2 MPH. Sad That's a sucky bike split. I was really hoping for 22.5-23.

Through T2. Again, a little slow.

Out on the run again and I'm trying to reel in some of the better bike riders. Managed to pass a few, but got passed by two guys. I did my best to hang with them and that seemed to pay off. 2 miles in 12:40. Was hoping for 12:00 even, but that's close enough.

Total race time of 1:19:32. My splits aren't exact because I was wearing a new watch and fumbled with the buttons a bit too much.

I hung around for a long time post-race waiting for them to post the OA standings (which they never did). I ended up waiting so long that they did the awards ceremony. Trough some divine miracle, I took 1st in my AG! Shocked Not only did I get a plaque, I got a $40 gift certificate to http://www.roswellbicycles.com/ Dancing Banana

A couple of things I took away from the race ::
1) I still suck at cornering at high speeds on the bike.
2) My bike split was sucky, but a friend's friend swears we had some of the best bike splits of the day.
3) my transitions at the end of last season were much faster than now

Cliff's Notes :: 3(+) mi in 18:45 / 16 mi @ 20.2 MPH / 2 mi. in 12:40. 1:19:32 finish time. 1st in my AG (unsure of overall).

Sorry about the fuzzy photos. I think I had peanut butter on the lens or something.

Bill_Sev crossing the finish line (he's the one further from the camera.

My buddy Geoff (who is way fast) and I. The lady on the right teaches spin classes at the Y.

Me, still in awe that I took 1st in my AG.

FANTASTIC!!

Next time get that helmet on right and you'll save yourself about a millisecond of your time. Razz

Just looking at your times is amazing all the same. I am impressed with how you ran and I'm glad to hear that you placed 1st in your AG!! How awesome is that???

I know and have had a Mile 3 as you did where I know it had to have been miscalculted in distance. So, I'm sure God witnessed it as well and totally understands your strife. I know I do.

One last comment...do you enjoy teasing thegman like this? Oh the horror it will be for him to find that you're now wearing Georgia Tech colors as such? I'm sure Sonny will be happy, but thegman will definitely be miffed. Wink

AWESOME Job PH!!!! Also, you weren't kidding about getting some speed on the Big Down Hill! I just checked my graphs from my polar and I hit 43.8mph down that hill!
