The new Macy's fall flier shows a little "bowling bag" shaped handbag for sale.

The handbag is by a company called Dooley and Bourke. Its shaped like a small bowling bag and has the company name on one side in a series of unmatched enamel letters. Tres chic !! Cost $ 225.00

So my question - if this was affordable to you, why would you buy it ? Personally I don't see anything spectacular about this, but I don't use handbags so I don't have a frame of reference. The bag is sure to be out of style in a few months also.

Now just let me add I see nothing unusual in paying the same amount for a "classic style" handbag that will not go out of style in three months. Personally if it lasts three or four years its well worth it. Or is this just a dumb male thought on my part ? I mean would you even want a bag that would stay in style ?

For that kind of cash, I better be getting an AWESOME nigh-bottomless leather bag that'll outlast the nuke-u-lurr cockroaches or an AWESOME courier bag that will magically make me fly on my bike like E. T. & Elliot.

$225.00 is not expensive for a purse. I purchased mine for about $250. I love it! It's a Brighton though. And yes I would spend that much on a purse again. But then again, I spend $100 on a pair of jeans.

nope, wouldn't buy that
I'm not a conspicuous consumptor of goods. On top of that, I make my own statement and don't need a name on a bag to do it for me. When I was in high school though, the name on my jeans mattered. It's probably an age thing.

I have a $400 Coach bag that MIL bought for me. I love it so much that I am now saving to buy a Coach leather backpack. I've gotten a refund from our gas company and from my last bout of loans, so I may have it soon IF I can find a Coach outlet around here. I hate paying retail.

$225.00 seems like a lot of money for a pocket book.

well, if you're buying a "name" that is not really expensive....i think you mean Dooney and Bourke though? i prefer to call them Booney and DORK.

i would spend that much on a purse if i knew i would be satisfied with it for years. I HATE PURSES. i buy them compulsively one day and despise them the next week. i've spent big bucks and small bucks and always ask the same question: who designs these stupid things??? the same guy that invented panty hose..... they all suck in design as far as utility goes.

A few years ago I would have, until I started spending money on handbags that were supposed to last and did not (Kate Spade, which had wonderful products at one point apparently started sending it's bags to factories employing small, underfed children with shaky hands).

My Coach bags, on the other hand, are still in good shape 10 years after the purchase, and always look stylish. They are both of a simple, similar design and made from high quality leather. So for about $250 each, that comes to about $25.00 a year for each, which I would say is worth the initial outlay.

But only if it doesn't clash with the purple running tights. Mr. Green
