How can one possibly go nine months (or so) and NOT know this ?
Dodgy kebab pain turns out to be baby
A woman who went to hospital fearing she had eaten a dodgy kebab was stunned when she gave birth.
Helen Smitham from Distington, Cumbria, had no idea she was pregnant when she felt stomach pain.
Her mum took her to hospital - and 60 seconds later shocked Helen gave birth to a 4lb 11oz boy.
According to The Sun Helen said: "I had absolutely no idea. When I had stomach pains I thought it was the kebab. At the hospital there was no time for the doctors to see me before it all happened."
Deaton is in the premature baby unit at West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven.
Helen's boyfriend Mark Askew, 41, said: "She was at work until the Friday before Christmas and we'd gone out doing the normal things, like going for a drink, Christmas parties and socialising.
"When I got a call to say we had a baby boy it was amazing."

I think I can elaborate on this. My aunt was a big, big drinker. With her last child, she supposedly went for 8 months not knowing that she was pregnant. All of the alcohol that she drank (apparently) stopped her menstrual periods and she was very irregular, despite spotting. She was also VERY underweight, and an irregular diet can cause cessation of a regular cycle. She appeared to just have a tiny pot belly. Most of the family wondered if she was inded pregnant. She denied it until the end, and my uncle stated that he was unaware of the pregnancy. They did not have sex on a regular basis as she was out drinking until all hours of the night, so he was not able to determine what most men would have figured out by having sex with someone on a regular basis and understanding their cycles.
She went into labor, not knowing what was happening as she was so out of life and devoid of any emotion/interest in her body. She went to the ER thinking that she was having some sort of cyst and bleeding resulting from her perceived condition.
What a surprise when three hours later she gave birth to a baby boy. He was underweight, with extremely high bilirubin levels. He was born with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS), and has emotional and learning disabilities. He has fortunately been able to maintain employment as a line cook, and hopes to become a chef at some point in his future. Unfortunately, due to the FAS, it is very difficult for him to stick to goals and learn in a college/culinary school environment. The poor kid (now 22) never really had a chance at a normal life from the minute he was born.
I hope sincerely that is not the case with this woman mentioned in the article. Why would you be so selfish as to do this to a child?
Hope this explains one (depresing) possibility.
I hope that is not the case with the woman and child in the article.

as stated in the she was premature in deleivery. at 4 pounds plus she was pretty early. There are medical conditions that can mess up a woman's menstral cycle, Thyroid conditions , anorexia, bulemia malnourishment and even severe stress. she might have even been on one of the new birth controls that allow a period only once every 3 months, she was past 3 months but miss one period and a lot of folks don't think mch of it if that is a regular occurence.

She could also be very overweight, so the bigger belly didn't register.
Let us assume she's in her 40s like her boyfriend. Maybe with the missed periods/hormonal changes she thought she was going through early menopause?
There's also the story Kristin described.
She could also be in severe denial. Maybe she was afraid of how he would react to a baby. Maybe she thought if she denied it, "it" would go away. If you lie to yourself long enough, you begin to believe it as truth.

my SIL was 6 months and taking bcp. And knowing my SIL, no way, no how, did she miss a pill. She had no idea. My brother and her were going on vacation and swimsuit shopping. He told her she had a pooch belly and took her out running.

How's it different than a shish kabob? Unless "dodgy" means it went somewhere it wasn't supposed to...

We have talked about this before here and my answer is still the same, I have no clue how you deliver a baby and not know you're pregnant.

I've been pregnant 5 times. I knew pretty quickly each time that I was pregnant.
But then I'm smart like that. Oh crap. Does that mean I'm not pretty?

Dodgy kebab = probably the equivalent of food poisoning or something that would cause indigestion
9 months preggers and didn't know it = obviously a real looker
