Posted: 05/05/03 - 13:19 Post subject: LOL I just got my yearly "Observation"
Our principal is to observe every teacher in the building, offering a critique, positive and negative, by the end of the school year. 21 days left (including today) and he has just started. There are about 40 teachers in this building. He came in my room before classes started and asked if I had been observed in my other building. I said "no" and he said he'd take care of it. Lunch time today, my "review" is in my mailbox . All I have to do is sign off on it. Many teachers will receive this kind of "observation." He has procrastinated and this is how he handles it.
On the upside: I've got a chorus program that I put together as part of my job. If they perform well, it is certainly an indication that I've done my job. He sees the results of my work, so why should he come sit in my class?

In my book thats very cool. MUCH better than having to fill out one of those review sheets with crap like "List and detail 5 things you feel like you performed exceptionally well on" "List and detail 5 areas you could 3 goals to be reviewed on for the next review period". Which, maybe your job you could find things for those, I have trouble with them because my day to day tasks are so monotonous and menial, its really a joke to ask where I performed well when it all is a matter of time frame things are accomplished, not personal performance. and really a joke to ask where I performed poorly because I'm so perfect. I'm really tempted to list "Failed to train a monkey to do my job" in the improvements section next time.
have I told you lately how much I love my job?

Uggggg....Man, yearly reviews...what a bloody joke. True story...we have to turn in 'weekly reports' to our boss basically detailing the highlights of the past week. We pretty much knew that he never opens them up so I wrote "Replaced the water jug with Corona in the office". That was months ago and no word about it yet!!!

I'd love to have a review like that! I do our portfolio option so I have 2 ten minute walkthroughs instead of the 45 minute observation. My summary appointment is in the morning. I'm sure it will be fine, but I really hate them.
Of course, only 16 instructional days left....(and I have guest speakers scheduled for 3....)
