At what age do you stop having to sit in the front yard as your kids play there??

I have my door open so I can hear them and one of my son's friends is over so that makes 3 in the driveway. They should be okay.

They are at the age where they seem to make tons of noise so it is easy to keep track of them! If it gets quiet then I head out since that usually means they are up to trouble.

Oh, I see! You don't have a warning about young people on drugs?

Well, not really. I let the 13yo go outside by herself. I let her supervise the 9 & 5 yo as well. But the 9 & 5yo do not go out by themselves where we currently live. At my father's place they play without us because it's country and Dad's yard is fenced. At their father's place they do too because again, it's fenced, and they run back and forth between Shelby's and his house.
It is a crazy world out there though, so being in earshot and keeping a watchful eye is always a good idea. I still do that with Libby and her girlfriends when they're outside here at home.

This is about where I am. My son will be 7 in a few days and I don't feel comfortable leaving him outside even though we live in a cul-de-sac. However, I hear him yelling, yelling, yelling...and then nothing...that is when I go look out the window. I want him to think I trust him (because he likes to feel like a "big boy") so I'm careful not to be seen when I look out the window. I trust him...I just don't trust the kids he plays with or potential adults stirring in the neighborhood.

We allow both of our kids outside unsupervised, but they get periodic checks on where they are. They were both six when we allowed this. If the go into a friends house, they either ask first or call when they are in there.
