cant hurt your feet, huh?
um, id like to remind you of the time when i dropped a kayak on my big toe. it swelled to monsterous proportions and involved a trip to catalina islands emeregency clinic where the "dr" had to burn a hole in the nail to let the fluid drain out and i had to hobble around for about 2 weeks at which time the nail fell off and i had to keep it bandaged up for the rest of the summer.

I seriously thought about getting a kayak instead of a mountain bike. But... there aren't a whole lot of good places for that, I don't have any way of transporting a kayak, and I'd never get any of my friends to go. So mountain bike it is!

Kayaking is on my list of things to learn in the future. I've done a lot of canoeing in the past including some class II and an occasional class III rapid. Kayaking looks like twice the fun of the canoe with the manuverability and light weight. I was insanely jealous of the kayakers on the New River in West Va. on the two rafting trips I've taken down it. We had fun.... they were having a blast!

Love kayaking! Went on a kayaking trip in S.C. while dolphins sawm next to me. What an experience. It's a workout only if you are going against the current but generally it's accessible to lots of people. If I could find a nice place to go here I'd buy a boat.

Well, I really like it. It's really easy to do on the water down here because it's so shallow and calm. The bonus comes with the ability to see all kinds of marine life you can scare off in a power boat.
If you can canoe, you can kayak on the ocean down here. Now, when you start talking whitewater, the New (Gnu?) might be a place to start. Not the Gauley though. We went ratfing there and there were people flipping on kayaks in that stuff! But they just turned over, as they were sit in kayaks.
As it turns out, I can get a nice one wholesale through work for about $250. Not bad.

I'm there, dudette! Not only am I ready to kayak, I do kayak. Bought myself a Perception last month. Of course, in order to get it home from the kayak store, I bought and installed the Thule rack. But what good's a kayak if you don't have a paddle? Bought one of those, too. Of course, I sprung for the PFD.
I'm ready. That baby weighs a little over 45 pounds and I can have it out of the garage, on top of the Blazer, tied down, and be on my way in five minutes.
But it's the typical kayak...not a sit-on-top. Makes it a lot easier to haul along some stuff. Plenty of lakes in the area...let's go.
