All I know for sure is the President made it clear that what ever she did, whatever her status, anyone involved with outing her would be fired. I am willing to trust the President to stand by his guns and do the right thing.

I'm not. But I hope Rove resigns anyway, even for strategic reasons (moral reasonss being out of his reach, IMO).

He not showing any real signs of doing that though, is he?
Besides, Rove didn't release Plame's name, he just referred to "Wilson's wife". I'm sure we can all appreciate the difference.

I view it as a partisan "whistleblower" trying to discredit the current adminstration & the Iraq war effort during a presidential election. Rove provided some much needed information about said "whistleblower" and the US Senate has exposed him as a fraud.
Do any of you honestly think Judith Miller of the famed NY Times is sitting in jail right now defending Karl Rove's rather large behind? More spin, less facts. |
As G3 said before, she's in jail for principals, not for anyone specific. She refuses to divulge her source, a long standing tradition for journalists...i.e. Bob Woodward.
I never understood keeping the identity of source confidential when criminal acts are involved, but that is neither here nor there. This conversation is about whether or not he should be fired.

If I refer to Megawill's wife, nobody knows who that is. Same as if I said Kurt Russell's wife. G3's husband.

And if those principals align with discrediting the current admin and/or Iraq war effort, that that's just a bonus... right?

Please spare me of the long standing "tradition" of main stream journalists who have been exposed over and over and over again for their lies. Thank god for the Net, Blogs, Cable TV, and modern technology. Otherwise all of America would still be watching Walter Cronkite tell the country how we lost the Tet offensive in Vietnam when we blew them away on the battlefield.

Cooper has said Rove was his source. We have the email. Rove has given him authority to divulge his name publically. Rove's name is already "out there" and the appointed special prosecutor has said Rove isn't a target. So why can't Miller do the same? It's not like Cooper/Rover are trying hiding any involvement with this case. Just maybe Miller's true leak/source (someone else at CIA, not Rove) knows more.

And if Valerie Plume appears on the cover of Vanity Fair, nobody knows who she is, right? She couldn't be endangering her previous intelligence contacts and current field agents. right?

If Rove was Miller's source than he would have to give her permission to give his name. Otherwise she is a journalist that can't be trusted to keep her confidential sources confidential...which means that she won't be able to do her job because sources won't confide in her.
So....Rove is the leak? And the President said that whomever leaked the information would be fired? What?

So, what you are saying is, Rove did leak the information, but the information leaked really wasn't significant. Yes? If so, why did Bush say he would fire anyone in his administration linked to the leak?

Just for the record, I know it's not allowed, but I was being sarcastic.

OK folks,
Lets take this in a slightly different direction and try to answer Sonny's question of exactly why Judith Miller would be sitting behind bars to try to save Karl Rove's "rather, large behind". (PS-For my opinion on his tush see WTRs thread!)
This was sent to me by an unnamed yet reliable source and is from the highly reputable and well-regarded Editor and Publisher, which covers media issues from an industry perspective.
Pretty interesting reading but a bit long to post here.

RR, This is an important question:
| Quote: | | The New York Times should answer some questions. For example, have they contacted Miller's source[s] and asked for an explicit waiver of confidentiality -- and been denied? If so, would that not appropriately put the pressure back on the White House, where it belongs? Does the Times want her sources to come forward |

Tis indeed, Pug.
As is the part near that when he admits that we're really not going to know at all what's going on here until the 8 redacted pages are made public. As the author notes that's where the meat of the story is and mostly what's kept a slew of judges keeping Miller in contempt.

Now Bush says he'll fire anyone in his kingdom, oops--I mean administration, who has committed a crime. You think the definition of 'is' was ridiculous, watch this.
