Shanny's first tri EVAH!
Got up at six, packed a PB&banana sammich into my cooler and made up my vile bike concoction of soy milk, Koolaid and a pinch of salt and off we went.
Long story short: 1:48:38
I wanted to be under two hours and I was very happy with this.
Swim 750m
22:33
I started out great guns and quickly ran out of breath. I had to keep reminding myself 'less legs' and to pull myself through the water with my arms. There was milfoil almost the entire course that was right below the surface of the water so it felt like slimy long armed aliens were trying to pull you under. Not so terrifically good, but I survived.
18.5km bike (hilly)
49:43 with transition to run (44:57 pure biking)
I WAILED on the bike. Total bicycular domination of the back o' the packers. I must have passed twenty people, most of them on the down hill as I screamed by at 48,000 km/h. I saw several spin off in to the ditch that were caught in my swirling vortex. Well, no, not really, but I did have two ladies thank me for blowing them away on the final stretch because it made them sprint back to the transition area, which made me feel totally buff and cool.
Edited to add: The mighty Trek 1000 was pure twisted steel and sex appeal. Rode like a dream. Shifted crisp and true, and practically climbed the hills without any help from me.
5k run
I have no official time for my run because the rat bastid race organizers put my overal time in my run time on the website which makes my overall time come out to three hours+ which is total lies and BS, but I'm not bitter. I think I did it in about 35 minutes. I started out way too fast (caught up in the moment of being a superstar biker) and had to walk a bit on the way out. I ran almost all the way back though. My legs felt great, I was just a little breathless from the quick pace. I miss my running partner when I run without her; she seems to help me pace myself. Some smarty pants threw a mountain in the middle of the damn run course, but there were cute little girls with water at the top so that was OK. I loved the feeling of heading out on the run and knowing that I was well within my goal time, it made me feel really confident.
All in all, a totally fun experience. Our very dear friends came out and cheered us on (complete with noisemakers and pictures, which I will post when they send them).
I am pumped to do my next tri next month. This is one addicting sport!
Hubby came in 1:27:31.
It's not letting me link to the results page but it's at www.kalrats.com and click on RESULTS PAGE

FANTASTIC FIRST TRI!!!!
Way to go for your first time out! I'm surprised how calm you seemed with the entire thing. I would have been puking like two weeks prior to it. You sounded like you had a lot of fun with it.
Your times looked good and you're off to a great Tri Start!
Congrats!

I don't know which are most fun to read - first tris, first thons, or first race of any sort. Such an exuberance. Such joy. Such pleasure.
WTG, Shannon! What a nice race and report!
