My first tri is on Sunday and I'm starting to get the jitters. This week has been hell on me because of the decreased activity.

I've got a gear checklist I've put together for race day:

Swim
Tri shorts
goggles
swim cap

T1 - Bike
Water bottle & towel (for the sandy feet)
socks
jersey
gloves
helmet
glasses
shoes
hydration bottle

T2 - Run
shoes

Anyone with some last-minute advice for a newbie?

One cool thing I "borrowed" at my last tri was a dishpan filled with water. Made getting the sand off my feet really easy; just a quick towel dry and I was good to go. I found it helped to put each sport's items in a separate bag. It makes it a lot easier when you doublecheck what you have (which you will no doubt do a few times).

Looks like you have covered the bases there, but I would recommend bringing a second set of goggle (if you have them) as they sometimes like to break/snap the day of a race (it actually has happened to me) and knowing you have a second pair around makes this situation less stressfull.

Most of all, relax and have fun out there.

Seat bag on your bike should have - spare tire, tire tools, patch kit and CO2 inflator. Multi-tool would be nice too.

What about your photo ID and USAT membership card (if you're a USAT member)?

I take 2 towels. One I put on the ground and a small hand towel I use to wipe my feet off.
Bodyglide if you have chafe issues.
Good Luck!!!

If it is a short bike, skip the gloves.

Have fun.

I use a squirt bottle for my feet, if they are really dirty, otherwise, I just go for it with just a quick wipe of the towel.

A few words of advice....

Start he swim on the outside and stay slower for the first hundred yards. Let the fish go(Unless you are a fish) You can catch them on the bike, at least I do.

Don't hit the bike all out for about a mile or 2 (depending on the length of the tri). warm up for those first couple miles. DO NOT go anaerobic right from the start.

With about a mile left on the bike shift on gear higher and spin faster to lighten the load and get your legs ready for the higher turnover rate of the run.

Stay hydrated, but not water logged.

Good luck, have fun.
